Monthly Library Displays
A Celebration of Diversity
August
This display will help students get excited about the library right away. It will coincide with the lesson created to correctly read the texts and illustrations.
September
This display will coincide with Banned and Challenged Book Week. I have selected books from past list that are in the library students enjoy.
October
Hispanic Heritage month runs from September 15 through October 15. This display will display positive fiction and nonfiction books with powerful and strong main characters that are Hispanic.
November
November is national Native American Heritage Month. These books displayed have qualities of accurate information based on the tribe the book represents. With this display, I had to be careful to pull books that are respectful.
December
The December month is short, but filled with a variety of different holidays to celebrate. This display has Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa books. I have also included "snow" books for students who cannot celebrate this time of year.
January
In order to share the all types of reading the library has to offer, I wanted to display audiobooks. Students so often think reading is only done with a print books. I want to showcase the excellent audiobooks the library has to offer and create a lesson to coincide.
February
I have pulled many books for this display from the Coretta Scott King Award list, but not all. This display has both fiction and nonfiction.
March
This affects so many families, but often the literature is not checked out as much. These books have a variety of disabilities affecting some main characters and some other characters.
April
These book are books originally published in another country. It is important for students to be aware of the different languages and how the books came to be in English.
May
This display is based on the theme "Courage". I wanted to end this year of diversity showing you can read about Black, or Native Americans, or disabled people any time of the year, not just during their month.
