Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family News | 21 August 2022
BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,
because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.
~From Saint Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, Ch. 1:1-5, 9-11
Dear Saint Clare School Families,
Congratulations on starting the school year safely and joyfully! The students did a wonderful job by cooperating with their teachers and with one another. Students and teachers spent the first week learning about each other, how to move around the classroom and campus, and how to treat each other with respect and kindness.
I continue to ask for your help in driving safely around campus, specifically by refraining from making a U-Turn in the middle of the street when students are present. I am grateful to the parents who walk their children to and from school, especially those who stay each morning for morning assembly. Your presence shows how much you value our community. More importantly, it shows your students that you are actively partnering with the school in their formation!
I am in awe and grateful for the parents who joined me at our second Saturday Work Day of the year. They organized the PTG shed, the Art Room, Middle School Staff Room, prepared playground equipment for the classrooms, painted the railings and benches, adjusted table heights and hung frames, and cleaned up overgrown plants.
Thank you to the Pastores Family, Lesly and Roberto Prado, the Moreno Family, Adrianna Aragon and Hector Gonzalez, Roberto Sanchez, Nico and Juan Vasquez, Jorge Chavez, Mailani Lavaka, Don Goldston, Karen Leano, Robert Bishop, Matt Nguyen, Shin Tsang, Pedro Espinoza, and alum Valeska Victorio. Remember to enter your hours in ParentSquare! Your help and expertise are greatly appreciated!
Stay tuned for more opportunities to volunteer, especially for Yard Duty Supervision!
The week ahead is an exciting one with academics and a full week ahead. Some key things to remember:
AT DROP-OFF AND PICK UP:
Continue to practice safe driving, assist students out of your cars, pull to the front of the loading zone, park in the school lot if walking to school.
ATTENDANCE REPORTING:
Continue to call in absences by 7 A.M.: 408-246-6797 - Attendance Line or email stclare-attendance@dsj.org.
THIS WEEK'S DISMISSAL:
Dismissal is at 3 P.M. on MTThF and 12:30 on Wednesday. Please pick up promptly by 3:15/12:45 or sign up for CKZ.
FOR RECESS AND LUNCH:
Pack a snack and lunch FOR ALL or order Choice Lunch.
VERY IMPORTANT: Refrain from dropping off lunch for students. We do not have staff to deliver lunches to your students.
More importantly, it is most beneficial for your students to learn EXECUTIVE FUNCTION skills to pack their lunch and/or remember their lunches daily. It's a great way to practice slow release of responsibilities, even for the littlest ones!
Your child will not be missing out on anything, if they do not have a special delivery for lunch, we promise!
ATTIRE THIS WEEK
Monday and Wednesday are regular school uniform days. Tuesday and Thursday, students wear P.E. uniforms. Formal Uniform on Friday for Weekly Mass (NO SHORTS, please. Cardigans, sweatshirts, sweaters are NOT required until weather is cooler.)
WEEKLY MASS | Fridays at 10:45 A.M.
Grades 3-8 will be attending weekly mass in person every Friday at 10:45 A.M. Please remember that formal uniform for students in ALL grades is expected, even if they will not be present at mass. Teachers in TK-2 will join for mass via Zoom or livestream. Prepare students to attend mass by visiting the USCCB Daily Readings page.
We are so happy to welcome our TKers, new students and teacher at our Opening School Mass. If you have a new family in your grade, please reach out to welcome them. Kudos to the 6th grade families who have already held events before school started!
OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENCOUNTER
- SAVE THE DATE: Back to School Night, Wednesday, Aug. 31, 6-8P (details below)
- Expect a weekly update from. your classroom teacher. Reach out to your Room Reps and teachers via ParentSquare direct messaging.
- Reach out to Ms. McKinnon if you need help accessing ParentSquare or you need to complete volunteer requirements. Teachers are starting to plan field trips and some will need assistance in the classroom.
I loved seeing many families at the 10:30 A.M. Sunday Family Mass today. Thank you to the Miranda-Mora Family for hosting our donut hospitality and for the families who hose the Spanish mass hospitality. It’s a great way to start the week in communion with one another. We hope to see more of you there!
I asked for feedback regarding the format of our weekly communications. Many appreciated the recording and still many preferred the smore newsletter. We will continue the smore format and will shift to the recording when it is necessary to present lengthy/complicated, or a large volume of information.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT | August 31, 6-8P | Adults ONLY
6 P.M. All gather at church for the General Session to pray together and meet school leadership and teachers.
6:45 P.M. General Session begins. You will be dismissed to attend your first session. Grades 6-8 remain in the church. Families with more than one child will select two sessions to attend. Those with students in grades 6-8 will need to attend session 1 first.
Because we are still finalizing the hire of our second grade teacher, Back to School Night for second grade families will be held sometime in September. You are welcome to attend the general session and BTSN for other grades on August 31. Thank you for your patience.
6:55 P.M. Session 1 begins
7:25 P.M. Session 1 concludes
7:30 P.M. Session 2 begins (Grades 6-7 will hold homeroom sessions in the classroom; Grade 8 will have the homeroom session, particularly about high school admissions in the church).
8 P.M. Session 2 and BTSN conclude.
As always, please be welcome to reach out to me, Mrs. Kogura, your teachers, or the members of our administrative staff.
With a grateful heart, I remain,
Mrs. Cecile Mantecon, Principal
