Mr. Posick's Friday email
January 15, 2016
We bundled up this week
Although the temperatures were quite chilly this week, we went outside for recess and our 7th and 8th graders were able to play broom ball outside. Our students did a great job preparing for the weather and, whether they want to admit it or not, really enjoyed themselves outside. Per school policy, we go outside when the temperature is zero degrees or higher or if the wind chill doesn't drop below minus fifteen degrees. We all bundle up and enjoy the time outside, myself included.
Staff was grateful for our 6th graders on Wednesday.

Great winter recess weather
Next week ends the first semester
Incredibly, next week brings the end of the first semester for our 7th and 8th graders while it brings the middle of the second trimester for our 5th and 6th graders. Next week also has a half day for students on Thursday and a day off for Friday. Our staff has professional development on Thursday afternoon with a work day for our teachers on Friday.

Mr. Flynn's visit
On Wednesday, Mr. Flynn, former Merton superintendent, spoke to our students about the school he is working with in South Sudan. The discussions I have heard since Mr. Flynn's presentation show the caring nature of our students. Today ended our Penny Wars, a chance for our students to donate money to provide school supplies and shoes for students in South Sudan. Here is a link to our assembly presentation including the Prezi that Mr. Flynn shared with our students.

PTO Box Tops
Throughout the school year, the PTO is collecting Box Tops for education. The month of December was a bit down as far as participation, so we'd like to bring a focus back to collecting Box Tops. Please make sure to trim the Box Tops and place them in baggies of 50 when possible. Thanks for your continued support.
