Online Lions to "In-Person"
Online Lions Family,
The Online Lions Program has been successful thus far. We have been able to give Salem students an opportunity for success that was not available in previous years. The Online Lions Program can be used by students/families for the entire 2020-21 school year if you choose.
Beginning after Fall Break students will have the opportunity to transition to “in-person” instruction if they choose. After seeing a decrease in positive cases in our county, the successful implementation of social distancing measures in our buildings, and changing life circumstances for many of our families, we believe fall break is one of two natural transition points for our students/families. The second transition period will be the beginning of the second semester (in January). More information will be coming in November for this transition period.
If you wish to transition your student into “in-person instruction” please fill out the form at the following link: tinyurl.com/yyw7lalc. Students or parents who do not fill out this form before 11:59 pm September 30th will not be eligible to return to in-person instruction until the end of the semester. All students that complete the form will be responsible for completing their Online Lions work through fall break and will transition back into the building after the break on October 12th. This gap in start time is to allow our counselors to change schedules, allow teachers to plan, and allow custodians to prepare for new students in the classrooms.
Parents may be concerned about what grades their students will receive in their classes once they transfer to in-person instruction. Transitioning to in-person instruction at the nine-week break can cause some complexities with student grades. We will work individually with students to make sure they receive credit for the work they completed while in the Online Lions program. The grading transition back to in-person instruction is much more straightforward at the semester break.
The next opportunity to transition in or out of the program will be at the end of the first semester. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard with their students during this difficult time. We appreciate your commitment to your student’s learning.
