Charleston Animal Society Donations
Low-Country Food Bank Donations
Beta Club and Student Council are joining forces again this year for our annual can drive! This drive will support the Low-Country Food Bank, which directly supports our local communities. Each year we have increased our donation and would love to have this happen again this year!
Important Info:
The can drive will run from 11/13/23-11/17/23
6th grade donations- Ms. Johnson (RM 203)
7th grade donations- Ms. Florence (RM 207)
8th grade donations- Mrs. Clark (RM 105)
Any student than brings in 10 food items will be eligible to wear pajamas on Friday (11/17)!
There will be a running list to keep track of who is applicable by the end of the week.
Donations will still be accepted that Friday (11/17)
Beta Club Members will receive one service hour for every 10 items donated
**Please make sure non-perishable items are unopened and not expired!!
We look forward to seeing how much we collect this year!!

Reproductive Health
Reproductive Health will be taught to all of students December 18th-20th during our afternoon fine arts classes. Additional details regarding the curriculum and teachers will be provided the 1st of December.
Federal Cards
Federal Cards will be available to complete in parent portal now. Any student that has theirs completed by Nov. 17th will receive a homework pass that they can use at the teachers discretion. If you have not set up your parent portal account, please contact the school.
Federal Cards provide our school district with essential information about your child. To show our appreciation for your prompt completion, we are excited to announce a special incentive!
**Students who have their Federal Cards completed by November 17 will receive a Homework Pass.**
To access and complete your Federal Cards, please follow these steps:
1. Log in to your Parent Portal Account.
2. Locate the "Federal Cards" section on the left-hand side.
3. Follow the instructions to fill out and submit the required information.
We encourage you to complete the Federal Cards as soon as possible, not only to take advantage of the homework pass opportunity but also to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information about your child.
If you encounter any difficulties or have questions regarding the Federal Card completion process, please feel free to reach out to our school office, and we will be happy to assist you.

Military Family Month
November was first declared as Military Family Month in 1996. Since then, November has been a time to acknowledge the tremendous sacrifices our military families make. They contend with separation from their families and adjustments to new living situations and communities.
Nurse's Note
Tentative Date for Student's Flu Immunizations is December 18th at 12:00.
If you'd like your child to receive dental cleaning and sealants on school premises, please fill out the Health Promotion Specialists form that went home 3 weeks ago.
Attendance News
Attendance notes are due within three days of your student returning to school. You may email them in at pattersong@bcsdschools.net or send them in with your student. You can check attendance at anytime in parent portal.
8th Grade Field Trip
On Friday, December 8, the 8th grade will be taking a field trip to downtown Charleston. The students will be participating in a historic walking tour to reinforce information learned in their social studies classes. The cost of the trip is $25 per student. Each homeroom teacher will choose one chaperone to attend the trip as well. If you are interested in chaperoning, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. The cost for chaperones is $15 and to be selected you must be cleared as a BCSD volunteer. Please visit www.bcsdvolunteers.com to complete the volunteer clearance.
Permission forms were sent home on Monday, October 30. The permission forms and money are due to Mrs. Ackerman no later than Friday, November 17th. If you have any questions about this trip or payment, please contact Mrs. Majewski majewskie@bcsdschools.net
Band News
Congratulations to 8th Graders, Bianca Benrexi, Sebastian Catangay and Maddie Lanphere who just completed a landmark season with the Stratford High School Marching Knights. The band placed 8th in the state in their very first entry to the BOA (Bands of America) competition and also earned 8th place in the State 5A competition.
Orchestra News
***Congratulations 7th Grade Orchestra for a Great Veteran Day performance. I am very proud of these musicians and the hard work they do. ***
- 6th grade Orchestra should be working on #64-70 in their book. We are using bows and placing fingers down on the A and D strings to change notes.
- Instruments should be going home during the week or weekend for practice. Musicians are allowed to come to the strings room at 7:55 am to practice as well.
- Things to do: North Charleston Pops Christmas Concert, Charleston Symphony Orchestra Concert, Candlelight Concerts( highly recommend)
- Did you know- Students receive discount tickets with the Summerville Orchestra and Charleston Symphony Orchestra.
- Winter Concert Dec. 12th at 6:30PM Call time for musicians is 5:45PM
Concert Dress: Black pant, skirt or dress. Black sock and shoes, Black dress shirt. NO Jeans, Leggings, shorts, miniskirts, tee shirts , flip flops or tennis shoes. If you have questions please contact Mrs. Raymond
Symphonic Scholars After School Strings Club is a great way to get tutoring for strings class.

PTSO News
We are getting ready for the holiday season!
We are currently planning an Ugly Sweater Dance for the students after school on December 15th from 3pm-5pm. Tickets will be $5.
We are looking for volunteers to help plan, decorate, and attend the dance as adult helpers. Please email us if you are able to contribute your talents to this event.
We will be running a Monarch Holiday Market for the students during Winter Spirit Week!
We will also be selling candy grams the students can order for their friends.
December 18-21st from 7:30am - 8:00am
