A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
Our school community must continue to denounce racism and discrimination, regardless of the race, gender, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, social class or any other identifying label, of the target. Our thoughts are with the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and all who have been impacted by the senseless acts of violence in Georgia and across the country. We stand with them, in solidarity. If you are interested in actively combatting racism, through the efforts of the Equity and Anti-Racism Task Force, please email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov for meeting information. We welcome new members to the team.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As we approach the final term, we want to minimize additional disruptions to this school year, while acknowledging the interest of several families for more in-person programming this spring. Many of us heard or read Mayor Bowser’s outline of changes that DC Health will make around health and safety guidelines for schools. DCPS plans to share next steps with schools, as soon as the full updated guidance from DC Health is released, and they evaluate, plan, and operationalize what those changes mean for DCPS. The school will then be able to plan and implement accordingly. We will share updates, as applicable.
Please keep you and your loved ones safe. For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov. Please visit dcpsreopenstrong.com or backtoschool.dc.gov for DCPS resources.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal
