Bernardo Parent Bulletin #12

Our Boon fund-raiser wraps up tomorrow, Monday, October 17th. Thank you to everyone who has supported our school!

This year with the addition of two full-day TK classes, an increase in enrollment of about 40 students, as well as school-wide breakfast being offered each morning, we've had to tweak and adjust our procedures to find what works best in regards to safety and supervision.

To clarify the updated morning procedures that were mentioned in last week's Parent Bulletin, all front gates will remain closed until 7:40 each morning. At 7:40, we'll open the entrance gates and students who wish to eat breakfast can head up to the lunch tables beginning at 7:40. Students can use any gate they wish to enter campus.

Unfortunately, we do not allow adults to eat lunch or breakfast at the students' tables due to reasons related to space and safety. Of course, parents are always free to check out their child to go out to lunch if they wish but the lunch tables are for students only.

We receive many questions from parents about the protocols related to when students should stay home or when they may be allowed at school at it relates to different illnesses or ailments. Our school nurse, Audriana Salinas, created the chart below with some general guidelines.

Bring out the entire family to our science night this Friday, October 21 from 6:30-8:00 in our multi-purpose room. There will be lots of hands-on science activities for the kids and adults centered around the theme of outer space.

We are still looking for parent volunteers to help with activity tables for this event. No experience or science knowledge necessary! If available, please email our PTA at theBernardoPTA@gmail.com.

We are excited to participate in the annual Red Ribbon Week with some fun Spirit days that connect healthy themes and concepts in a way that is relatable to our students. Please see the flyer below for the fun dress-up opportunities each day.

Students are invited to wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31st if they wish. Please ensure that costumes are elementary age appropriate without any weapons, masks, blood, or gore.

We will hold a costume parade on campus at 8:15 that morning and we're excited to invite parents to come and watch the parade this year! If you'd like to come watch, please sign in at the front office that morning and then head out to the basketball courts for the parade.

If your child will wear a costume to school, please send a change of clothes to school so that he/she can change out of their costume following the parade. This will help ensure that costumes don't get damaged.

On a related note, the students will once again be voting at school to determine which costume Mr. Lyche will wear. Voting options will include Cookie Monster, Buzz Lightyear, Mr. Incredible, and a giraffe! Thank you to Mr. Kochon for kindly donating his costumes for the day!

All Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel are invited to save the date of Thursday, November 10 from 8:15-9:30 for our upcoming Veterans Day Celebration here at Bernardo!

We're excited to hold a brief outdoor assembly followed by our guests visiting classrooms to share about their experiences. We'll also be putting together a slide show featuring photos of our guests in the military attire. We'll share more details about this event, including how to RSVP and submit photos in next week's Parent Bulletin.
