This Week at GLOBE
News & Notes | March 23, 2022
From the Executive Director
Dear GLOBE community,
It's hard to believe there is only a little over one week remaining until Spring Break. There is a lot happening at both campuses and I encourage you to read this newsletter all the way to the end to ensure that you don't miss any important information.
Last week I was delighted to announce the appointment of our new Upper Campus Head of School, Priscilla Noble. We are thrilled to have Priscilla here on campus this week, getting to know more about GLOBE and our community. Dr. Noble's background is detailed in her biography, which can be viewed by clicking here.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate our new flag football teams on their great start to the season, winning both games on Monday evening!
Sincerely,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director

2 more weeks of Dress-down Thursday
We have two more weeks of $1 Dress down Thursdays! Bring $1, wear what you want, and help the 8th graders have a great trip to Savannah!
We are still looking for parents to help with money collection at both campuses. If you are able to help out on 3/24 or 3/31, please sign up here. Thank you for all your support!
Calling all graphic designers
Are you a designer willing to share your talents with The GLOBE Academy? We would be so grateful for your help with some small but time-sensitive projects. (There are plenty of enduring opportunities to be involved, too.) For more information, please email Leigh Long.
Fundraising
GLOBE’s Development Committee is seeking volunteers to help plan GLOBE’s Annual Fund campaign and the GLOBE Trot fun run. While these fundraising campaigns take place next school year, we are planning now and need your help! Please reach out to Meghann Adams for more information. No fundraising experience is required.
Upper Campus
Morning Carpool
The return of Daylight Saving Time has also brought the return of some morning carpool mayhem. See below for some friendly reminders about morning drop off at Upper Campus. Let's remember CREST and maintain a safe and efficient morning carpool routine.
7:00am to 7:30am - Registered Before Care students
Parents dropping off students who are REGISTERED for Before Care may pull across the front driveway and drop at the double red doors facing Briarcliff Road.
7:30am to 8:00am - Carpool
Pull into the carpool line and follow it all the way around the back of the building to the gym doors. Carpool drop off begins at 7:30am. Please remain in your car and wait for staff to arrive before allowing students to disembark. Students should not be left unattended at the gym doors at any time.
Flagholders
Parents who have purchased carpool privileges at the annual auction may show their flag and pull across the front driveway.
Instrument drop off on Mondays
Parents of bass and double bass players may pull across the front driveway (but only on Monday mornings for instrument drop off).
Exiting Carpool
All parents are expected to exit the parking lot at the far driveway and turn RIGHT.
Late arrivals
If you arrive at/after 8:00am, please park your car in the parking lot and walk your student to the gate to sign them in tardy.
Lower Campus
Francophone celebrations
Some pictures from last week's Francophone celebrations. Lower Campus celebrated with a parade, representing all Francophone cultures. Guest performers led the Lower Campus with traditional African dance and drums, representing Francophone countries. This was followed up by a student led performance of song.
Afternoon carpool
Please do not park on Briarwillow Drive. Parking there, particularly in the afternoon, makes pedestrian crossing on Heritage Drive especially difficult.
Admissions
GLOBE is excited to welcome our new students to our community next year. Check out the new student and family letter here to learn about ways we will welcome our new students.
Additionally, we understand that plans can change. If your student’s plans to return to GLOBE has changed from “yes” to “no” between now and the start of the 2022 school year, please complete this form. Having an accurate count for the school year allows us to plan and budget appropriately or allows a student from our waiting list to fill the open spot.
Casting call for "Shadow Force"
Lionsgate are undergoing a casting search for a 5—10 year old black actor to play the son of Kerry Washington and Omar Sy in the Lionsgate film “Shadow Force”. They are reaching out to French speaking schools all over the US, Canada and Europe as the role speaks both English and French in the film. No prior acting experience is necessary. See flyer for details.
Host families wanted
GLOBE has applied for the French Teaching Intern (FTI) grant from the French Embassy, and the Spanish Conversation and Cultural Assistant (Auxiliares) grant from the Spanish Embassy. We are anxiously awaiting approval!
Pending approval, we will need amazing GLOBE families to share their home with an FTI or Auxiliar. Please contact Robyn Brandman, Host Family Liaison, at robynloren@gmail.com if you would love to host an FTI or Spanish Auxiliar.
Summer Camp / Extended Care Program (ECP)
Global Expeditions Summer Camp Update
Hurry and get on the waitlist for summer camp! Although most spots have been filled, we are maintaining an active waitlist.
You will be notified via email when your student has been moved from the waitlist to the class. If your summer plans change and your student is no longer able to attend, please notify summercamp@theglobeacademy.net as soon as possible so we can let other students have those spots.
Aftercare
We have a limited number of aftercare spaces available. Email cclines@theglobeacademy.net for details.
Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC)
Spirit Night
Thursday, March 24, at Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary, 4525 US Highway 78, Lilburn, Georgia 30047, from 2pm to 6pm. A portion of tickets sold will go to support GLOBE!
We need you!
PTCC is seeking a co-lead for our communications efforts. This role will give you a chance to liaise between the board of directors and the GLOBE community. If you have two hours a week to spare, good writing skills, and you would like to get involved, we invite you to join ComCoor.
2022 GLOBE Annual Auction
Auction Registration is OPEN! Visit www.theglobeauction.com to secure your bid number. This year's Auction will be a two-part event beginning with a Silent Auction (April 29) open and free for all through mobile bidding and culminating with an in-person indoor/outdoor event (April 30) at Wild Heaven Brewery in Avondale Estates.
The Auction benefits all PTCC activities throughout the year including teacher appreciation, classroom resources, cultural events, International Fest, campus improvements, Science Night and more. In order to make this possible, we need donations! Know of someone with a wonderful vacation home? Have a favorite boutique or fitness studio in the area? No donation is too big or small.
We also need volunteers to make the auction a success. Email auction@theglobeacademy.net to volunteer to serve on the auction committee.

COVID Corner
Updated mask policy
On March 7, 2022, The GLOBE Academy updated its mask policy for all students. The full policy can be reviewed here. Although masks are not required for entry into the school building, if your child is showing signs and symptoms of COVID-19, please seek a negative COVID-19 test (rapid at-home or rapid/PCR at a testing location) before sending them back to school. Please also have them wear a mask at school until their symptoms improve.
Weekly COVID-19 testing
Viral Solutions will be back on campus again on Thursday, March 24, to provide all GLOBE students and staff with access to free rapid antigen testing. The positivity rates of each testing clinic can be found on tab 2 of the Data Dashboard. Results will be updated the day after each testing clinic occurs. If you would like to enroll your student in testing for the semester, you can fill out the consent form here. If you have questions about the testing process or how to receive your student's results, please read the FAQ flyer.
Vaccination survey
We would like to determine how many of our students are fully vaccinated. Understanding the vaccination coverage in our community will help us to make informed decisions about sporting events and meal time locations. To learn more and/or to notify us, click here.
