Family Connections
The Oklahoma State Department of Education encourages families to be a part of their student's learning. So in conjunction with the OSDE, we will be featuring a few ideas of how to work together with the schools to further your students understanding! Each week, we will focus on a core subject and ways to continue learning at home! This week will feature ideas to highlight ELA skills!
"Reading is a building block for success in all school subjects and a critical skill that develops with time and practice. Encourage your child to read for pleasure, and be a good role model by reading things you enjoy." - OSDE 6th Grade Family Guides
What to do at home:
- Ask questions about what they are reading or watching and ask them to provide examples to support their answers.
- Write a thank-you card by hand to someone who has been kind or helpful to you.
- Discuss interesting words, such as those with many meanings, the same or opposite meanings and those that sound or are spelled alike
"When families and schools work together as partners, it helps your child achieve academic excellence!"

Available Resources
As students transition to the 6th Grade Center, we would like to inform our parents of some additional resources that may be helpful throughout the school year.
- The Indian Education program provides free tutoring for all Collinsville students. Our students can ride a bus to Collinsville Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays and meet with tutors in the middle school library. The tutoring is from 3:30-4:30 and parents will need to arrange pick up for their student at 4:30, no school transportation is provided for getting students home after tutoring. More information can be obtained by calling 918-371-5779. This service will begin on September 5, 2023.
- We are very excited that students will be able to obtain additional Math support in our Math Lab this year! The lab is open each day during school hours. Students can receive additional support for a particular math lesson, work on basic math skills, or be able to make up math work from being absent. Ms. Julie Struble will be working with the students and will create a schedule for the students to be able to visit her during one of their elective hours. Please call the school office, 918-371-3144, if you have any questions about this resource.
