Welcome Back to School 2017-2018
Welcome back to school and to the 4th grade!
I am so excited to get to know each of you and to share in the learning experience! Fourth Grade is a fun time, but also requires a lot of effort as well. I want to make this year a great year for your child, so please let me know if there is anything I can do to help or if you have any questions.
To help your child have a great day please have your child bring a water bottle and snack to school each day.
Extra supplies:
Ear Buds
Crate for locker organization
1" binder to bring to school and take home each day (optional)
Decorating supplies for journals (duct tape, pictures, or stickers)
Picture of your family in a frame to display around the room or in the hallway
Small pillow (fits in their back pack) for their chair in the classroom

First Day of school your child will need to bring:
*their own snack- One of the papers you received at Meet the Teacher listed several snack options if you need help with what to bring. I have an open snack policy in my classroom. I allow my students to eat their snack anytime they wish as long as it is not during direct instruction from me or while we are on computers. Please be aware that we have some students with nut allergies. Should your child bring anything with nuts to eat, they will need to eat and wash their hands immediately after to make sure they do not spread any of the nut oils around the classroom.
*water bottle with sports top- It never fails that someone will spill their drink and water is the easiest to clean up and I don't have to worry about ants or bugs coming in to our room. Please only send water in their water bottle.
*supplies and extra supplies that were not on the supply list- if they didn't bring them on Meet the Teacher night. This could be a crate for their locker or a small pillow for their chair (fits inside their backpack).
*lunch/lunch money- make sure they have their lunch or bring money if it is not already on their lunch account.
*decorations for their journals- they can bring whatever they would like to decorate their math, reading, writing, and science/social studies journals.
*wearing a uniform with a smile on their face ;)
You will need to have their dismissal card to pick up, if walk-up or drive-up. If you didn't get it Thursday night, please pick it up Tuesday morning.

Homework
Reading each night. Please make sure your child is reading at least 20-30 minutes each night.
Math Facts each night. This goes for multiplication and division, but your child should also be working on addition and subtraction as well. This is a skill based on memorization, so your child will have to work on memorizing all the facts. The overall goal is to have your child more confident with their facts so they can focus on the problem instead of trying to solve the math fact along with whatever the problem is asking as well. Your child should be practicing each night for about 10 minutes total.
Typing is a great skill to practice at home. There are a lot of typing games out there so look around. I have also linked one below under Computer Fun at Home.
Sleep. It is imperative that your child get the recommended amount of sleep. It will be a part of the their homework to go to bed early enough to keep their brains and bodies ready to learn when they are at school.
Other assignments will come home as needed. Discuss with your child what they are learning at school. Give them time to process it, so don't necessarily ask right after picking them up. This will help them to recall and retain information. Please let me know if you ever have any questions about what is happening in class.
