County Line Connection
November 2023
Message from Principal Eisenbach
Hello CL Families,
Thank you everyone for your support and understanding after the incident at KMS. When we returned to school on 10/25 the staff at CL did a phenomenal job having age-appropriate conversations reassuring our students that CL is a safe place. We are constantly assessing our safety protocols and plans, and this most recent incident reaffirms the importance of our investment in that work.
I’d like to give a shoutout to our PTA and the committee chairs for the fall fest event, the marathon, and our book fair! Those events were huge successes this past month and would not have been successful had we not had the volunteers necessary to plan and staff them. PLEASE consider joining the PTA and volunteering to help out at future events. Our next meeting is Monday, November 6th at 6:30pm in the CL library. We are fortunate to be able to offer these fun activities to our families and need help to keep them going.
Our character trait for November is GRATITUDE. Thank you families that completed the home connections for our October character trait - RESPONSIBILITY. We are starting to fill the cafeteria wall with the paper stars returned with the completed home connections. Please take some time this month to talk to your child(ren) about gratitude and some of the things you are grateful for as a family. I can honestly say I am grateful for being a part of an outstanding school and school district!
Thank you,
Andy Eisenbach
Principal
Let's talk cough drops!
Hello County Line Families. Let’s talk cough drops! Last year there was a school district policy change that now considers cough drops an over-the-counter medication. Therefore, they now require the non-prescription medication form to be filled out and be on file in the Health Room. The Health Room will also need to store and administer your student’s cough drops. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Stephanie Dodge, County Line Health Room Aide, at sdodge@gsdwi.org or call 262-253-3465.
Please note when calling the office please dial 262-253-3465. The number that shows up if we leave a message may not get you the office. If you ever call and are unable to leave a message or can't get through, chances are you may have dialed the wrong number. Office:262-253-3465
Message from the Director of Teaching and Learning
Dear Families,
Your student will be bringing home a writing sample with a rubric attached. The writing sample is an “on-demand” assessment. For on-demand assessments, students take one period and write his or her best. Students are not given specific topics, but instead, students have the opportunity to determine what he or she would like to write about. On-demand assessments provide information about what students can do independently and help teachers to determine if skills students have learned transfer into their writing.
Teachers assess student writing using multiple tools including the rubric that is attached. The rubric explains what writing should look like at the end of the year for each grade level. The rubric is a progression of indicators that help teachers understand where a student is in their writing development. Each one of the indicators describes what good writing entails. Teachers can use the indicators to determine ways to move students toward the next step in the progression.
In addition to on-demand writing pieces, students have also been working on pieces that they publish. Published pieces include the opportunity for several revisions, drafts, and feedback. Published pieces are written over time and showcase how students respond to feedback and incorporate new skills and techniques in their writing.
Throughout the year students will have multiple opportunities to create “on-demand” pieces and published pieces. Multiple writing pieces allow teachers, students, and their families to see the growth in students’ writing skills.
After reading your student’s on-demand piece, please return the on-demand writing sample and attached rubric to school. Teachers will collect on-demand pieces throughout the year and will use the writing pieces to help students understand and see their growth as writers.

Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination is happening again here at County Line School! If you
want to be part of a creative and fun after school program, then “DI” is for
you! Please, pick up an interest form in the Office as teams are forming now. Tryouts will be in early November so please scan and email the form to the DI
Coordinator. We are also looking for parents to be Team Managers, so if you
want to be part of a “DI” team and know someone that may be interested in
managing a team, or have questions, please have them contact the DI District
Coordinator, Mary Bykowski at mbykowski@gsdwi.org.
