My Smore Flyer
I bring "Family Engagement" beyond "the signatures" and audit compliance. I call my work place my “Titan Family.” Family engagement to me is about doing everything I can to support families, teachers and staff to make sure that students succeed. When planning Parent University Workshops, I consider the real needs and time constraints to may parents. I make sure to work with my bilingual liaison to connect with our Hispanic community. In our diverse school this is not a one size-fits-all scenario. If it means doing things in different ways and times, then I'm going to do it! I approach my work in the way that if I can help a teacher, parent, or student by connecting them resources, volunteers or support then I am doing what I need to be doing. If I can make parents feel welcome and feel like they belong in our school then they WILL come to our school more often. If I can get parents feeling vested then, will get to know our teachers and staff and they will make sure their kids are at school, on time and ready to learn. I want parents to understand middle school is the pre-school to high school and it is the stepping stone to college and carrer. I want our business, community and faith partners to stretch an help our families because it is good for the community. When a local business supports our school, I shout them out! My experience is the community really does want to be part of student success. Our more afluent neighborhoods have done school supply and drives. Just like Sesame Street used to sing, "Who are the people in your neighborhood?" The people in my neighborhood include my families, teachers, and community parners, and they are the people that I not only meet each day, but go above and beyond my call of duty.
