CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
This week we welcomed New York Times bestselling author/illustrator, Matt Tavares to Woolwich Central School! He spent the day speaking with students about how art works with literature, and he discussed the collaboration between authors and editors as part of the writing process. Students did a great job with active listening and had thoughtful questions for our guest. We are very familiar with Mr. Tavares' work and were so excited to meet with him in real life! Many thanks to the WCS PTA for this amazing opportunity!
TEACHER APPRECIATION
THANK YOU, NURSE SHERWOOD!
This week we celebrated National School Nurse Appreciation Day. We are so grateful for the wisdom and compassion that Nurse Sherwood shows our students every day. Thank you for making each day at WCS a HAPPY DAY!

STEM NIGHT
Do you like building with Legos, launching rockets, or making slime? These and other activities will be part of our first annual STEAM night. Outdoor art, volcanoes, prize raffles, 3-D model building, Coke and Mentos explosions and the spring art show will all come together on this fun night for the whole family. Bring your curiosity and smiles to Woolwich Central School on Thursday, May 18, from 5 to 7pm!
PTA BOOK SWAP
Students are encouraged to bring their "gently used" books to school for donation to the WCS PTA Book Swap! There are collection bins outside of the library and in the school entryway. Students should tally how many books they bring in under their classroom teacher's name. The week of June 5th, students will be invited to choose out a different book to take home and the class that donates the most books will have first dibs at the book swap!
Books will be accepted up to Friday, June 2nd.
Please, no adult books, magazines or board books.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS
You can almost HEAR this photo!
On Friday several students from our Life Skills program went to McMann Field to compete in the track and field events at the Special Olympics. The whole school enjoyed the opportunity to clap for the group as they departed, and then gather together to cheer as they returned to WCS! We are so proud of our athletes and the joy they share through this event. Thank you to all who participated!
FALL SPORTS INFO NIGHT (Grades 6-8)
KIDS HEART CHALLENGE
Our K-5 students were able to raise $2245 for the American heart Association through the Kids Heart Challenge. Jack Lebel was the top earner with over $550 raised! This fundraiser allowed for students to learn about their hearts and what it takes to make their hearts healthy. It is an educational moment for the kids that also benefits kids in real need. Thank you all! Mr. Hutchings
