High School Equivalency Testing
The State of Michigan allows students to take the GED, HiSET, or TASC in order to earn a High School Equivalency certificate. HiSET and TASC are not well-known in Michigan but may be used more often in other states. The GED test is not even offered in some states!
Offering all 3 tests has allowed Michigan students to find a test that is best suited to their need. All tests are based upon College and Career Readiness Standards, but the tests vary somewhat in cost and format (GED is computer only while the others have paper/pencil options). It also means that students moving to our state from other locations can complete their test in Michigan.
Also, due to Covid-19, test companies are offering remote proctoring for tests. While this can be a great idea for some students, the flexibility can come with substantial proctoring costs and challenges due to unreliable technology and internet service. However, there are unscrupulous companies out there that have been promising testing at home for year. If you have questions or concerns, check with the WWACE office or the state's Office of Adult Education.
Credit Recovery
Rotation 2 began on November 9th, but students may continue to sign up for classes until November 20th. Classes in Rotation 2 can be taken in two ways: students can take traditional credit recovery classes on-site with Adult Education instructors or students can take virtual classes through Edmentum while accessing teacher assistance during Zoom office hours.
