Week of Monday, October 2nd - Friday, October 6th, 2023
Dear NBES Families and Staff,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. As we continue to focus on promoting a positive school culture, this week I want to delve into the theme of "Acting Responsibly" both at school and at home. ACT RESPONSIBLY is the A in STAR Behavior! Instilling a sense of responsibility in our students is a crucial part of their development, and it's something we can all work on together.
At North Brookfield Elementary, we believe that acting responsibly is a fundamental aspect of character development.
What Does Acting Responsibly Mean?
Responsibility is about taking ownership of one's actions, choices, and their consequences. It's a fundamental skill that not only helps students succeed in school but also prepares them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in life.
How Can Students Act Responsibly?
Share with your students how they can embrace responsibility:
- Complete Your Homework: Make sure you finish your assignments on time. This helps you learn and prepares you for future tasks.
- Be Accountable: If you make a mistake, own up to it. Learning from your errors is a valuable part of growing up.
- Respect Others: Treat your classmates, teachers, and everyone around you with kindness and consideration. This creates a positive atmosphere for learning.
- Take Care of Your Environment: Help keep our school clean and safe. Pick up after yourself and report any safety concerns.
- Use Time Wisely: Manage your time well by setting priorities and sticking to schedules. This will help you accomplish your goals.
What Acting Responsibly Can Look Like at Home
Promoting responsibility doesn't stop at the school gates; it extends to our homes as well. Here are some ways to encourage responsible behavior in our children:
Setting Expectations: Clearly communicate your expectations for responsible behavior at home. Discuss chores, homework, and any specific rules you'd like them to follow.
Model Responsibility: Children often learn by example. Demonstrate responsible behavior in your daily life, whether it's managing finances, completing tasks, or showing respect to family members.
Encourage Decision-Making: Allow your children to make age-appropriate decisions and experience the consequences of their choices. This helps them learn responsibility and accountability.
Establish Routines: Consistent routines help children develop a sense of responsibility. Create a daily schedule that includes homework time, chores, and leisure activities.
Celebrate Achievements: Recognize and celebrate your child's responsible actions. Positive reinforcement can motivate them to continue acting responsibly.
Let's continue to work together in fostering responsible behavior, both at school and in our students' homes. Thank you for your dedication to our students' growth and development.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
Warm regards,
Sarah Priestley, Principal
