Hello GREEN Educational Partners,
8th grade GradNite information is below. The announcement was sent to all families via SMS Text notifications. Therefore, the students were informed. The City of Oxnard is the sponsor and organizes the event. The GradNite event is not affiliated with our Hueneme Elementary School District.
Parents/guardians, please remind your students to carry their cell phones in backpacks. All cell phones must be in silence mode or powered down. Students are to focus on their learning. Unfortunately, social media distracts students from reaching their intellectual capacity. As a result, cell phones are confiscated when a student uses them on campus.
When was the last time you had time to check your student’s cell phone? We want our students to be safe while using their phones at home. Please take time to talk to your student about phone usage and safety.
“Evidence from a variety of cross-sectional, longitudinal and empirical studies implicate smartphone and social media use in the increase in mental distress, self-injurious behavior and suicidality among youth; there is a dose–response relationship, and the effects appear to be greatest among girls.” (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7012622/)
Thank you for limiting access to social media. Discuss trimester three, the last trimester of the school year and their accomplishments. Your student has time to push the grade marks up.
Attentively,
Irma Melgoza-Vasquez
Principal

SHINE 2023-2024
Parent Square Announcement
Enrollment in the Expanded Learning Day Program, SHINE (Students having innovative and novel enrichment experiences), for the 2023-2024 school year begins the week of April 24th. SHINE is the new program that unifies the former ASES Program and the enrichment classes offered this school year after school.
SHINE Enrollment packets for next year are available in the school office and with the site coordinator at each school. Participation in the expanded learning day program requires a new enrollment packet each year, as students currently enrolled in ASES do not automatically get enrolled to the next school year. Attendance for SHINE is based on the needs of each student and/or their families. Per AB 130, first priority is given to students who are English learners, foster youth and/or eligible for free or reduced-price meals and is based on available staff.
A confirmation letter will be mailed home in June to let you know if your student is enrolled to begin on the first day in the 2023-2024 school year or if they are on a waitlist.

Message From The Health Office:
The health office is a busy place. We have seen an increase in students coming to the health office that appear to be using the COVID protocols as a way to get out of class. Please talk with your student about not coming to the health office unless they are genuinely not feeling well. Also, COVID is still present and we are following the current Ventura County Public Health guidelines so please have a plan for who can pick up your student in case your student is sent home sick. Any COVID symptoms still require a negative COVID test result for the student to return to school. We want students in class as much as possible while looking out for your students' health and safety. Thank you for your help.

COVID Symptom Reminder and Return to School Requirements
As a reminder, at no time is it acceptable to send students to school when they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and especially if they have received a positive test result (laboratory based OR at-home test). Please make sure to report all positive cases to your students’ school.
Temperature Screening: Please screen your child at home each day for fever or symptoms and do not send your child to school if he/she is symptomatic or sick.
Students are to stay HOME if:
-If your student does not feel well, keep them home.
-If your student has any COVID-like symptoms, keep them home.
Home tests or antigen tests are now accepted
-Thank you for keeping our school community safe.
