District Newsletter - February 2024
A Message From The Superintendent
The root of joy is gratefulness. It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful. ~ David Steindl-Rast
February is a month that focuses our attention on all things bringing joy to the heart. My heart is full of joy and pride for the exceptional students of SHISD, our outstanding staff, and the community support that makes Spring Hill ISD a very special school family. Parents, thank you for being engaged in your student’s educational experiences. We greatly value your partnership in ensuring students in SHISD are continually learning, growing, and finding success in their academic and extracurricular endeavors. It is an honor to serve in this amazing school district!
Sincerely,
Penny Fleet

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month!
During the month of February, we join the nation in celebrating the achievements and contributions that career and technical education (CTE) programs provide in preparing students for high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand careers.
Spring Hill High School offers a variety of CTE Programs of Study to provide students the opportunity to gain the academic, technical, and employability skills necessary for true career readiness. CTE Programs of Study available at Spring Hill include Accounting & Financial Services, Culinary Arts, Digital Communications, Healthcare Diagnostics, Welding, Electrical and Carpentry.
“Career and Technical Education provides students with career exploration opportunities that enable them to make informed decisions about their academic coursework and pursue established Programs of Study and career pathways,” said Adrian Knight, Assistant Superintendent of Career and College Readiness.
Ninety-five percent of Spring Hill High School students are currently enrolled in at least one CTE course.

High School Students Spread Joy Through Candy Grams
Earlier this month Spring Hill High School Life Skills students sold candy and carnation grams for Valentine's Day. The students independently completed each step of the project, from cutting and assembling the candy grams, to selling to the students and staff, as well as delivering them. High School teacher Jamie McFaul said, "The students had the best time and did an amazing job!"
Students Participate In Kids Heart Challenge For The American Heart Association
Spring Hill Intermediate students are participating in the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge program. Through this community service project, students raise money for the American Heart Association while learning how to develop heart-healthy habits like being physically active.
“We are learning more about our heart, body, exercising, and eating healthier,” said Intermediate teacher Chris Peurifoy. “I challenge each of the students to talk to people about what we are doing and learning in PE class.”
To add to the excitement of the program, Peurifoy has established student rewards for fundraising levels, such as pouring slime on staff members and getting to work as Coach of the Day.
Money raised during Kids Heart Challenge helps fund community initiatives, heart disease education and research.
