Weekly Update April 1, 2022
Head Cheetah's Message
Dear Families,
Happy April Fool's Day! As the saying goes… “April showers bring May flowers,” and the first day of April did not disappoint. It started and ended with rain; but the flowers are definitely beginning to bloom, and so are our students! Their knowledge and citizenship continues to blossom. Next week, our grade three students will be able to demonstrate their proficiency on the Smarter Balanced assessments (SBA). This will be our third graders’ first experience with the summative state assessments. However, students have had regular exposure throughout the school year to the content and skills specific to grade level standards measured by the assessments, the critical-thinking and problem-solving skills embedded in the assessments, and the technology and assessment platform on which they will be assessed. We know they’re ready! In an effort to support our third grade learners, our K-2 classrooms are adopting grade 3 classrooms throughout the assessment window. The K-2 students will make motivational cards and posters to inspire and encourage our grade 3 readers and mathematicians to do their best! You can help your student(s) be their best by reminding them to charge their chromebook, bring a pair of headphones, and have a positive attitude!
Classroom Tidbits:
Preschool- students reviewed numbers 1-40.
Kindergarten- students compared weights: heavier/lighter, described the weight of an object and classified objects into categories.
Grade 1- Students began a new math chapter: comparing lengths of objects and putting them in order.
Grade 2- students transitioned from using homemade rulers to yardsticks. Students explored yardsticks and tape measures to measure inches, feet, and yards.
Grade 3- students began a new math unit that will focus on area and perimeter. Learners will understand the difference between area and perimeter and be able to apply multiplication skills to the concept of area.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Joey & Andrea

Nurse News
Dear parents/guardians,
With spring finally here with the warmer weather, it is important to stay hydrated. Please send your child to school with a water bottle labeled with their name.
If your child is experiencing any of the following symptoms, please keep them home for at least 24 hours (without use of pain relieving medication) before returning to school:
fever (temperature of 100.4 or higher)
sore throat
diarrhea
vomiting/nausea
uncontrolled cough
loss of taste or smell
poor appetite/lethargy
pink eye
severe seasonal allergy symptoms
Please be reminded that cough drops are not allowed at Memorial School as they pose a choking hazard. We appreciate your assistance in keeping our students safe. Thank you!
Also, Please bring in a spare change of clothing (shirt, pants and underwear) for your child to keep at school in the case of an accident or a spill. We have a very limited selection of bottoms in the nurse office. If anyone has gently used boys sweatpants or girls leggings size 6 and up and sneakers size 13 and up to donate to the nurse office that would be greatly appreciated.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns!
Thank you,
Nurse Katie and Miss Michelle
