Cucinella Weekly Wrap-Up #21
Week of February 5, 2024
"Never be limited by other people's limited imaginations." — Dr. Mae Jemison
Week Twenty One:
February often gets labeled as a dull month, but here at Cucinella, it's anything but! This is the time when we witness our students truly finding their rhythm and making remarkable strides. As the holiday break memories start to fade, our students are diving into their studies with enthusiasm and determination. The completion of recent reading and writing benchmark assessments serves as a testament to their progress thus far and sets the stage for even greater achievements as we continue through the year!
This Monday, we were thrilled to welcome a special guest, David Paul from the Harlem Wizards, to our school for an exciting assembly. Known affectionately as DP, he showcased his impressive skills and shared the excitement for the upcoming game. Scheduled for Monday, March 11 at West Morris Central High School, the game promises to be filled with fun and entertainment. We eagerly anticipate seeing how our staff will fare against the remarkably talented Wizards. For tickets, please visit the PTO's webpage at https://www.cucinellapto.com/boosterthon
This week also signified the 100th day of the school year, coinciding with a bustling Thursday. Teachers had a myriad of enjoyable activities prepared to commemorate this special occasion. Students engaged in various activities centered around the number 100, such as counting groups of 100 objects or exploring multiplication and division by 100. Our dedicated teachers creatively integrated this numerical theme into their lessons, making it a focal point of the day across all subjects.
We were delighted to welcome a special guest on our 100th day of the year. Children's poet and author Darren Sardelli graced our school with his presence to discuss his literary works. Following a lively and engaging assembly where he shared anecdotes from his life and recited his humorous poetry, he spent time with our fifth graders for a question and answer session. During these discussions, he recounted his personal journey from being a easily distracted and frequent daydreaming student to becoming an award-winning author and poet. He conveyed to the students the valuable message that hard work and determination can turn dreams into reality.
We appreciate your ongoing support, and stay tuned for more exciting events and updates from Cucinella! If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me at cperruso@wtschools.org.

RELATED ARTS SCHEDULE: Monday starts our Related Arts schedule on a DAY 2.
Outdoor Recess
Please keep in mind that even when the temperatures are very cold, we still make every attempt to get our students outside for recess. In conditions of extreme cold, we may not stay out for our full recess period, but we will take the students outside for a few minutes in order to provide them with much needed fresh air and some physical activity. Please be sure that the students are coming to school dressed appropriately. Sending students with coats, hats, gloves and other winter apparel is greatly appreciated.

Terracycle Fundraiser
WE WANT YOUR TRASH!!!
The PTO's Terracycle Committee has placed a new recycling collection box in the vestibule, to the left of the doors as you enter the building. The mission of this program is to collect home care and air care plastics, spray bottles and air fresheners. These are all items that would normally be thrown in the trash, but through Terracycle, we're able to keep these items out of landfills and raise money for the school in the process. This program will run throughout the school year, so start collecting your items to be recycled and contribute them to the collection box at your convenience.
For more information about this collection, visit https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/febreze-air-care?viewPDOInfo=false.
