RHHS Wildcats: News You Can Use

All students and teachers will be on Spring Break next week, April 6-10. We will resume eLearning on Monday, April 13th.

We are finishing our second full week of eLearning, and we will continue using this format for instruction through the end of the school year.

Students can expect to see grades posted for eLearning assignments. Students who fail to submit a required assignment will receive a 40 for that assignment. Teachers are working with students/families and realize that there are unique needs and situations at this time, but we also want everyone to understand that teaching and learning is continuing and is expected.

Teachers will be working to update PowerSchool gradebooks, and most teachers have indicated that gradebooks should be up-to-date by the end of the day on Friday, 4/3. Teachers who anticipate needing time over spring break to grade assignments will communicate this with parents/guardians via email.

The following events have been suspended, postponed or cancelled:

• GHSA contests and practices, including band and JROTC, have been suspended through the end of May.
• Prom has been cancelled. With the announcement that we are not able to return to school this year, we made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel Prom. Students who purchased tickets (for guests, or because they didn't pay student dues) will receive a refund through MyPaymentsPlus.
• Grad Bash has been cancelled. Students who registered and paid for this trip have been refunded this money. These refunds were made through MyPaymentsPlus to the original method of payment.
• Graduation plans are being reviewed and options for this ceremony are being discussed. Additional information will be shared in the coming weeks.

RHHS is proud that so many military families choose to make Richmond Hill their home. Each year, we take time to recognize and celebrate our children of military families on "Purple Up" day.

This year, Wednesday, April 15th is Purple Up Day. Please join me in wearing PURPLE on Wednesday, April 15th, and show your support of our military children and their families.

Bryan County Schools has established a centralized location where BCS technology devices will be issued and replaced by appointment. If your child's chromebook becomes inoperable, or you need a charger, you will need to schedule an appointment so another device can be made available. The tech depot will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 9:00am & 1:00pm.

RHHS and all school buildings in Bryan County are currently closed and will remain closed for the duration of the school year.

During the closure, instruction will continue using elearning platforms. Students will use Google Classrooms to interact with teachers and receive instruction daily, Monday - Thursday. Students must be logged into their Bryan County Schools gmail account (not their personal email) in order to access their Google Classrooms. Teachers will be available (via email) to students and parents from 8am-3pm daily, Monday - Thursday. RHHS has set a "schedule" to provide structure for both students and teachers:

• 1st block: 8am-9am
• 2nd block: 9am-10am
• 3rd block: 10am-11am
• 4th block: 11am-noon

We fully understand that some students will not be able to follow the schedule, and this is fine. All students should login to each Google Classroom daily, complete the attendance form, and complete the associated lessons and activities for the course (even if it is at a time outside of 8am-noon). Our goal is for students to have 30-45 minutes of instruction/activities for each of their classes, each day.

We have created a link on our RHHS homepage with information related specifically to elearning.

During Spring Break, no meals will be provided.

Meals on the Bus will resume following Spring Break.

Meals may be picked up at RHHS beginning at 11am. There will be signs directing you where to pick up the meals once on campus. We ask that you not get out of your vehicle. We will deliver the meals to the cars.

Buses will also make meal deliveries to three of our neighborhoods in south Bryan:

Ashton at 11am, Piercefield at 11:15am, and Plantation at 11:30am.

If you are getting more notifications from Google Classroom than you would like, there is a way to disable these notifications.

How to disable notifications: Go to your Settings (clicking the 3 horizontal lines on the top left of the computer screen when you are logged into classroom), scroll down to Settings at the bottom, click that, and simply toggle off Class Notifications to your liking at the bottom.

Georgia Southern University first year applicants for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 are not being required to submit ACT or SAT scores as a requirement of their institution application.

According to University's Office of Admissions website, “First-year students applying to Georgia Southern University for the summer and fall 2020 semesters can be admitted without an ACT or SAT score, if they have a sufficiently high GPA.”

Counselors at RHHS encourage students to stay connected throughout the time of e-learning. Grades are going to matter more than ever without the ACT or SAT being considered for admission at GSU! Official high school transcripts will be used to evaluate a student’s academic performance and will be used in the college admission process.

The COVID-19 pandemic has lead the College Board and ACT to suspend many upcoming ACT and SAT testing dates. More information about these cancellations can be found at Collegeboard.com and ACT.org

The University System of Georgia authorized the change that granted GSU prospective first-year students to meet all other admission requirements, including satisfactory completion of the required high school curriculum and all other requested documentation.

Georgia Southern enrollment counselors remain available to assist applicants and prospective students via phone and email.

Please note that the change to waive the test requirement is ONLY for first year applicants. Dual Enrollment applicants must still meet the required scores and GPA as indicated and set forth by the university.

Other universities and colleges throughout the states may or may not be adjusting dates and application criteria. Students and families should visit the school’s website they are interested in to learn about the most current information during this time.

Caps and gowns have been received at the school. If you placed an order for announcements, these have also been received at the school. In an effort to support regulations and recommendations to stay home and limit contact, we are not distributing these items at this time
