We are now using the gym for our morning arrival. A few things to remember:

7:35am: the doors will open and then students are directed to a certain line in the gym. These lines are designed to keep students socially distanced to the greatest extent possible.
7:45am: students head to their classrooms
7:50am: students are considered tardy

If your child is having a change in transportation please make sure to send a note and/or email to your child's teacher. If we do not have a note they will be sent home depending on what you shared as your preferred method.

Reading out loud is one of my favorite things to do. It's a great way to get kids excited about reading and/or promote different types of books they might not have tried on their own. Over the last two weeks, I have started reading out loud during lunch time. I try to get to each grade level at least once every two weeks schedule depending.

Meet a Book Monday: K, 5th, 6th

We Read Wednesday: 1st-4th

First Chapter Fridays: 7th-8th

I'm currently working on how we can get the books I read into classrooms for kids to reread and/or continue reading. Stay tuned for more information.

The IDPH has released an updated COVID-19 Decision Tree that PreK-12 school can use for excluding symptomatic individuals. Please see the images below:

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. This is a great time to talk about the power of choosing kind. October 20th is Unity Day. On this day we are encouraging everyone to wear orange as way to bring awareness to bullying. Wearing and sharing orange shows a unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. It send a message that no child should ever experience bullying. Here at LW we work hard to ensure the safety and acceptance of all students and will continue to promote a welcoming environment.

To learn more about unity day check out the video below from National Bullying Prevention Center. Even though this was created in 2020, it explains the day and why orange represents saying no to bullying.

The PTO is always looking for people to come and join in the fun! We have our monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at 7pm. At this time we would like to have it in person with a zoom meeting link available. After our next meeting we will have an idea of the events for the school year.

Coupon books will be on sale 10/1-10/15. The top 3 sellers get a $25 gift card! Students must return their sample book if they do not sell it. Order forms should be give to the classroom teacher.

These events will be here before we know it. We are currently in discussions for what these two events will look like this year. We wanted to see how the start of the year went especially in terms of navigating health and safety guidelines. Please be on the look out for more information to come.

I have loved having the opportunity to read out loud to students during lunchtime.

Gratitude

I'm so grateful for the ability to supervise lunches along with Miss Kunkel and Mr. Dotson. They have become some of my favorite parts of the day. It allows me to chat with students and get to know them even more.

Goals

I want to attend some extra curricular events to see our students shine outside of school too!
