• Front Doors open at 7:55 a.m.
• First Period bell rings at 8:10 a.m. (students should be in First period Class at this time)
  

• Dismissal is at 2:30 p.m.

Please Send Email: Prior to 9am on the day of the absence (same as current voicemail option) Please Include: Child’s name, Grade, and Reason for absence.

We encourage you to use the email option when reporting an absence, dismissal, etc. Parents are still free to use the phone system to report absences, but you are encouraged to use email for greater office efficiency.

If you prefer, you can certainly call the attendance line prior to 9:00am, at 978-251-5122, please press 1.

We will continue to send automated emails when students are absent. The email serves as notification that your student is not in school and will be marked absent.

In order for an absence to be marked as "Excused", families will need to provide medical documentation.

2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

(Approximately 15 minute appointments)

TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30 & 31, 2024

9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION CENTRAL OFFICE

230 NORTH ROAD, CHELMSFORD, MA

Visit the Chelmsford Public Schools website. Click on the “RESERVE YOUR APPOINTMENT” link to enter parent/guardian contact information and preferred appointment time within a three-hour window.

You will then be contacted to confirm a date and time for your registration appointment. Registration packets may also be dropped off at the School Administration Office, 230 North Road, Chelmsford, MA: Monday – Friday; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., if you are not able to attend these two dates.

In addition to the completed student registration packet, the required documentation to submit is listed on the CPS Student Registration page.

Mark your calendars! The CHS Marching Band is excited to collaborate with The Establishment in North Chelmsford to host a Dine to Donate event. The Establishment is generously donating 20% of all dine in and take out food orders from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

The Establishment is located at 75 Princeton St., North Chelmsford.

Dear Parent/ Guardian:

Massachusetts General Law c. 71, s. 57 requires all publicly enrolled students in grades 5 through 9 to receive annual postural screening for scoliosis. Postural screening is essential as your child is going through his/her most rapid rate of growth during 5th- 9th grade. During this time, early detection of a spinal curvature can create opportunities for the easiest treatment to correct the growth of the spine. Not recognizing the problem until the child is fully grown can lead to serious complications as an adult, such as pain and even difficulty breathing, which may only be corrected by surgery.

Generally, these screens are part of your child’s annual physical examination with their pediatrician. However, if you would like for our school nurse to complete this important examination, please notify your school nurse in writing no later than February 2nd.

Reminder to McCarthy Families - Cold weather is here.... students will still be going outside for a little break after lunch. Please remember to wear coats, hats and gloves .

CONTEST

Attention Mccarthy! Do you like to draw? Paint? Graphic design? Then this contest is for you! The Yearbook Club needs a cover for the 2023-2024 yearbook. Now is your chance to showcase your artistic talent! The theme for the yearbook cover is diversity and unity. Consider the events we’ve already overcome together– covid, building changes, new schedules and teachers.

Here are some guidelines:

• vertically formatted, 8.5” by 11” paper

• Must include “Mccarthy Middle School 2023-2024” on the front in a legible font

• Write at least 1 sentence to explain how your design incorporates our theme of diversity and unity

• All entries must be submitted to the main office by no later than Friday, January, 26th, 2024

McCarthy's LOST & FOUND is filling up with sweatshirts, jackets, water bottles, hats, notebooks, and other "stuff". Please have your students check for any missing items. All items are on the lost and found table in the cafeteria. Any unclaimed items will be donated at the end of Winter Break. Thank You

Lunch/Cafeteria Reminder:

Our school is considered to be "nut aware" and not nut free. Although nuts are allowed, no students are permitted to share food in the building. It is also considered best practice not to have students bring in shelled peanuts for the safety of others. It is important for students to understand that if they are bringing in nut products, they cannot share them regardless of whether the other student is allergic or not. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that no student experiences an anaphylactic response and we can help prevent those events together.

While we have these discussions with students throughout the day, it would be helpful and appreciated if you would address this at home as well.

Just a reminder to parents that home medication should not be sent to school with students, the health office is well equipped to medicate, and can call home or work with families for specific needs. Students should not take medication unsupervised at school.
