CMS families,

As we approach the end of the first semester, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your support. This semester, we have worked on building behavior systems, establishing clear expectations, and encouraging a culture of giving our best effort in everything we do. I am eager to see the progress and success that the upcoming semester holds for each student, and I look forward to celebrating their achievements together.

Thank you once again for being active partners in your child's education. Your dedication to their success makes our school community stronger!

As we gear up for the second semester, we want to stress the significance of consistent attendance for your child's success. Here are some reasons why attendance is so important:

• Academic Success: Regular attendance ensures active participation, better comprehension of lessons and a strong educational foundation.

• Social and Emotional Growth: School offers more than academics. It's where friendships blossom, communication skills develop and a sense of belonging forms.

• Routine and Responsibility: A steady school routine teaches time management and responsibility—essential life skills.

• Teacher-Student Relationship: Regular interaction helps teachers meet your child's individual needs and build meaningful relationships.

• Confidence and Self-Esteem: School accomplishments boost confidence and provide a sense of belonging.

To improve your child's attendance:

• Set Routine: Create a consistent morning schedule allowing ample time for prep.

• Open Communication: Talk to your child about school, addressing any concerns promptly.

• Positive Outlook: Highlight exciting daily activities to create enthusiasm for school.

• Health Priority: Ensure rest and a healthy lifestyle to reduce avoidable sick days.

• Plan Accordingly: Schedule vacations and appointments outside school hours.

• Celebrate Progress: Recognize your child's accomplishments to maintain motivation.

• Lead by Example: Demonstrate commitment and punctuality in your own responsibilities.

Additionally, please note:

• Attendance Monitoring: Once your child reaches 5% of school days missed (8.5 days), you will receive a letter from the school as a gentle reminder of the importance of consistent attendance.

• State Notification: If your child misses 10% of the school year (17 days), the state will be notified as part of our commitment to meeting attendance reporting requirements.

We are committed to working closely with you to ensure that your child has a fulfilling educational experience.

• Boys' Basketball practice for 8th graders started today on January 4th. Practices will be at Crete Middle.

• Boys' Basketball practice for 7th graders starts on January 8th. Practices will be at Crete Intermediate.

• Girls' wrestling practices start on January 8th at Crete Middle.

• Students will return on January 4th.
  
• Your child’s second quarter report card will be mailed home on December 27th. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s academic or behavior progress, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or our school office.
  
• Winter break is great time for students to clean out their backpacks, wash their winter coats, and find their winter gear!
  
• We will continue to go outside as much as we can for recess second semester.
  
• Blue tooth headphones are not allowed at Crete Middle School. We will follow the same protocol as a cell phone if headphones are confiscated.
