Mayflower Marathon
⭐⭐⭐WE DID IT!!!!⭐⭐⭐
Each year, Phelps participates in Rock 102’s Mayflower Marathon Food Drive. Bax and Nagle of Rock 102 will be broadcasting live from the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield From November 20th-22nd. Their goal is to fill FOUR, 48-foot trailers with non-perishable food donations for the Open Pantry of Springfield.
Last year, Phelps collected 2,180 items and set a goal of 2,500 items. While we still have ONE MORE DAY of collections, Phelps has EXCEEDED our goal. 🥳🪅
As of Friday afternoon, staff and students at Phelps have contributed 3,725 items!!! WOW!!!!
We still have one more day of donations left before we crown our winning classroom - but looking at these numbers - our Phelps community is AMAZING!!!! Because we broke our second goal, next Tuesday, November 21 is a school-wide PAJAMA DAY! 🤗🤗

Focus on Writing
Phelps is putting a school-wide focus on writing. In looking at our 3rd and 4th grade MCAS data, as well as samples of student responses, we have decided to increase our efforts as a full faculty in supporting students writing skills. Staff are working in groups which include teachers from every grade level, special education, interventionists, and specialists to strategize how to best support growth. More resources and information about our commitment to this area will be coming home throughout the school year.
You can help at home too! You can encourage your child to keep a journal - even as young as kindergarten. Kids can draw a picture and then write a sentence or two about it! Older students should be encouraged to practice their writing skills by typing if possible. There are some amazing resources for typing at the ERNI Educational resources website.
Staff Crystal Apple Award for October
The staff Crystal Apple Award winner for October is Miss Daglio!
Ms. Daglio is a hard-working staff member who works tirelessly to make sure the needs of her student are met. She plans engaging activities, coordinates with specials teachers to help her student meet with success, and problem-solves innovative strategies to help her student. She pitches in with classroom duties and will help wherever she is needed. And to top it off, Ms. Daglio always has a smile on her face! We are lucky to have Ms. Daglio on our staff!
October Students of the Month
Congratulations to all of our October student of the month recipients!!!
Agawam High School Building Project
Module 3 is under way and a detailed survey of the existing building has been done in order to identify and catalogue all the spaces that are currently being used.
Educational Visioning and Space Planning is completed, and with the help of the Leadership team, teachers, students and parents, we have identified existing issues and challenges with the building, as well as goals and visions for a potential new school and making the educational plan the best possible.
The project team submitted the Preliminary Design Program (PDP) to the MSBA on July 28, 2023, and received comments back from the MSBA which were responded to.
The project team then submitted the Preferred Schematic Report (PSR) on October 26, 2023, and are currently waiting on the formal comments back from the MSBA.
Next step in the process is a meeting with the FAS (Facilities Assessment Subcommittee) on November 8th or 15th, to prepare for the MSBA Board of Directors meeting on December 13, when the Town of Agawam is hoping to have the High School project approved to proceed into schematic design.
Volunteers Wanted
Phelps teachers are looking for some help! Every Friday, from 10:00-11:00am we are looking for one volunteer to come in and help teachers with their photocopying. Here is a link for you to sign up.
As a reminder, all volunteers must have a CORI check and have completed our volunteer training. CORI checks are done through the APS central office located at the Junior High. Mrs. Domina runs our volunteer training. She can be reached at sdomina@agawamed.org.
Report Cards & PowerSchool
Electronic distribution of report cards will be on Friday, December 15. Paper copies of report cards will no longer be sent home. In order to receive your child's report card, you must have activated your PowerSchool account. As a reminder, accounts must be set up using a computer. Once accounts are created, you can access information through the PowerSchool app.
We were recently informed that the PDF report card that is emailed will not be accessible after 2 weeks. While we are working with our IT department to see if this can be adjusted, please make sure to download/print your child's report card once you receive the email.
For help or questions about accessing your account, email vsolivan@agawamed.org or avillamaino@agawamed.org.
