CSD Top 3
Your monthly school district newsletter
June 1, 2022
Dear Canby Families,
Ready or not. Here comes summer vacation, but first another edition of the CSD Top 3, those three things we think you’d like to know. Enjoy!
You Are Invited
Since voters passed the 2020 school bond, we have been working to put that money to good use through new playgrounds, safe entry upgrades, turf fields and more. Now, we are getting ready to break ground on our biggest bond project yet – a 50,000 square-foot science and general education wing at Canby High School featuring modernized classrooms, meeting rooms, shared learning spaces and common areas. We are so excited and would like to welcome the community for a groundbreaking event on June 8 at 2:45 p.m. near the school and track.
Student Spotlight
With graduation just around the corner, we are celebrating our Canby High School seniors. Both the Canby School District Board of Directors and the Canby City Council adopted proclamations naming the week of May 30 as “Honoring the High School Senior Class of 2022 Week” or “Senior Week” for short. The proclamation encourages families, friends, and neighbors “to take time to congratulate those graduates in our community, recognize their achievements and honor them and their journey of education.”
Canby’s seniors recently participated in a grad walk across the district, visiting their middle school and elementary schools. Then on Friday, June 3, they’ll make the real walk across the graduation stage at Cougar Stadium.
Schools Get Tech Boost
This summer, we will begin upgrading our schools with “future-ready” technology, starting with Carus, Lee, Baker Prairie, and Canby High. While we cannot entirely predict the future of instructional technology, we can examine best practices, work with our staff, and prepare for it as best as possible. For example, the wiring going into classrooms supports a shift to the most up-to-date wireless technology currently available.
Upgrades will include ceiling and wall-mounted projectors, wall-mounted televisions in key meeting and instructional areas, wireless display technology for both staff and student devices, voice amplification systems, improved wireless connectivity, synchronized building-wide clocks, updated bell systems, talkback public address systems, state-of-the-art security cameras and new badge access systems. These upgrades are expected to improve safety, enhance student learning, and offer ease of use for teachers.
