Principal Message
Dear Sequoia Families,
If you weren't able to make it to our last parent club meeting, we made some progress on our "Light Up Sequoia" fundraiser. We are planning a casual wine, beer and cider tasting/dinner event on May 8th at the Friedman Center. Mark your calendars and be on the look out for more information soon. We also heard an update from our parent group about next steps for purchasing a backup battery in order to power up during PSPS days. There is still a lot of work to be done, but the ball is rolling. If you have any interest in helping with this fundraising event, please contact Dian Ross at dian_m_ross@yahoo.com. There are many ways to contribute or help!
On another helping note, we are looking for parents that might be interested in helping with family fun nights for Sequoia. This might mean planning a dine and donate, bingo or trivia night or something else fun for Sequoia families. If you'd be interested in brainstorming some fun ideas or being part of a team to put on a couple events this year, please email me at bclark@rvusd.org.
Next week is the Great Kindness Challenge Week! The California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, has officially endorsed The Great Kindness Challenge and invited all California public schools to participate. Currently, 27, 010 schools will be taking part and we are one of them! Tomorrow we will have a Kindness Week Kickoff Assembly to set us up for a great time next week. On Monday, each child will receive The Great Kindness Challenge Sheet with 50 ways to be kind throughout the week. There will also be a family edition available if you'd like to get into the spirit together as a family. Student council will also be selling Kindness Cards to send to friends and classmates for $0.25 Tuesday through Thursday. Just to make the week more fun, we are encouraging students to get dressed up for kindness.
Here's the schedule for Kindness Week:
- Monday - Accepting others for our differences is Kind (Mismatch Day)
- Tuesday - We don't hide from Kindness (Camo Day - or wear brown, green or black)
- Wednesday - Tip your hat to Kindness (Favorite Hat Day)
- Thursday - Kindness ties us together (Tie, Bowtie, Hair bow Day)
- Friday - Peace, Love and Kindness (60's, colorful, positive message Day)
In addition to these optional dress up days, there will be some other fun activities and opportunities for students to show kindness all week long. Looking forward to a great, KIND week!
