Mountain View Weekly Update
September 2
Announcements & Updates
- On behalf of the Mountain View Middle School staff, we look forward to your attendance at Back to School Night, scheduled for Thursday, September 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please review the invitation and schedule included in the August 26 Weekly Update for additional information.
- Important reminder: If you need to drop an item off for your child during the school day, please leave the item (labeled) outside the front entrance and ring the intercom to alert the Main office. To minimize disruptions, unless the item is urgent, the Main office will not interrupt instruction to inform your child that an item has been dropped off. He/she is responsible for checking the front table.
- Picture retakes are scheduled for Friday, September 9. Students received a proof of their initial photo with ordering instructions in home base today.
- The Lions' Den will be open for students before school, from 8:00 - 8:30, beginning Monday, September 12. Students reporting to the Lions' Den do not need to sign in at the Main entrance; instead, there is a sign-in at the entrance to the Lions' Den. Note that students will not be permitted to enter the building and go to the Lions' Den after 8:20.
- The after-school Den Hour, from 3:30 - 4:30, begins on Tuesday, September 13. To sign-up, students should use the link on Mrs. Toth's Google Classroom. This year, the Lions' Den will be available after school Tuesday through Thursday for students wishing to complete projects, homework, and classwork, and for those students assigned by their teacher to complete missing work.
- Pomptonian and the district Business Office have received multiple inquiries regarding PaySchools, the online platform for student lunch accounts. Please see the user guide attached below if you are having difficulty setting up an account for your child.

A note from Ms. Walsh
Happy Friday Mountain View! I hope everyone is looking forward to the long weekend ahead. Throughout the first days of school, each grade level met for town-hall meetings to go over policies, procedures, and expectations for the year. Students were also reminded of what they can do to schedule an appointment with me. Each grade level was reminded of the importance of appropriate social media usage and how what we do online has the potential to impact us both in school and in life. Over the long weekend, try these conversation starters with your child to gauge how they use social media and their understanding of appropriate social media use:
- “How could social media be a first impression of someone’s character?”
- “Do you have a trusted adult that you would share anything inappropriate posted on social media with? Or someone you would tell about unkind or inappropriate text messages?”
- “How could an Instagram post, a text message, a Snapchat, or a TikTok go beyond the audience you intend it for? What could some of the consequences of that be”
- “If you ever saw a hurtful post shared by a friend, how would you respond?”
- Is the way you handle conflict online similar to the way you handle conflict in real life?”
- “Do you take steps to protect your online privacy? How important is online privacy to you?
