Hear Us Roar
Mills Students at the Regional Science Fair-
We are so proud of the students who attended the Austin Energy Regional Science Fair this past Saturday! Many of our Mountain Lions took home 1st or 2nd place ribbons. This was no easy task. Congratulations and thank you for representing Mills Elementary. We hope to continue with the high interest and momentum of Science Fair for next year!
Wow, over 65% of our students are registered for SY 23-24! Parents, we know you have so much on your plates, so we appreciate that you have made this a priority to complete. Let's try to get to 100% by the end of March! If you need help with registration, please don't hesitate to give our front office a ring- they are more than happy to assist you.
Lost & Found
It's 35 degrees one day and 80 degrees a few days later.. it's impossible to keep track of the weather in Austin. Please encourage your child(ren) to check the Lost & Found. It's exploding with cold weather gear. We also encourage parents to check in with the front office and look through the Lost & Found yourselves to locate missing items!
Mills Around the World
Did you know that our Mills students and families represent over 24 home languages spoken? It is this diversity that helps us excel in academic and social emotional excellence here on campus. Mills Around the World is a celebration of this diversity, presented by our PTA, and will be this Saturday, March 4th, from 1pm-4pm in the Mills cafeteria. Expect to see/learn about a variety of countries/cultures and enjoy a special musical presentation by our 4th graders!
March Spotlight: Arts & Music
Big Art Day -
Friday, March 10th is Big Art Day at Mills Elementary!
March is National Youth Art month, and the state of Texas has been a leader in youth art month celebrations. To partake in this tradition, Mills Art department dedicates a whole day to art creation. This year's theme is Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night! The main goal is to bring our children together and create collaborative art which will be displayed in the hallway. All PreK-5th Mountain Lions will be participating in Big Art Day during their Essential Areas time on Friday.
If you would like to volunteer to help out during Big Art Day, you may sign up here. Please only sign up during your child's essential area time.
Music in Our Schools Month-
The National Association for Music Education has designated the month of March to be Music in Our Schools Month. MIOSM is a time to celebrate and advocate for the benefits of high quality music education in the public school system.
Our superb Music teachers, Ms. Thomas and Mr. Jackson, have our students engaged in a plethora of musical activities throughout March. From choir practice, to preparing for the musical, learning about composers, practicing recorders and learning how to play the ukulele, and everything in between, we LOVE Music education here at Mills!
