Happenings at Decatur Central High School
February 27th, Edition
Greetings Decatur Central Families,
We have had a great week at Decatur Central High School culminating in a parade of champions on Friday, February 23rd. We celebrated a number of students that qualified for the state championships in swimming and solo and ensemble contests. Truly we are blessed with some incredibly talented students.
This week marks the beginning of a season of testing. Thursday, March 2nd is school SAT day for all juniors. Only juniors are required to attend this day as others can do job shadows, college visits, etc. It is our hope to have a highly conducive environment for testing for our juniors this day and minimizing interruptions would be key to that.
Finally, I encourage you to encourage your students to bring their best effort each day. This time of year, with many days of grey clouds and little sun, we can experience some learning fatigue. Finding ways to encourage your students will help ensure that they bring their best effort each day!
As always...we are better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today because we are Hawks, its what we do!

FFA does some amazing things!
FFA students were hard at work this week! To kick-off National FFA Week, students hosted an FFA lock-in. Our FFA week committee planned a full agenda filled with FFA Quizbowl, a passionate dodgeball tournament, making teacher appreciation cards & dog toys to donate to a shelter, and ended the night with a mock CDE in Milk Quality & Products! Members and guests also enjoyed some quality chapter bonding time filled with games and snacks!
On Tuesday, we traveled to the Wheeler Mission homeless shelter and served chili to their residents. In preparation of this service learning opportunity, FFA members planned a menu, bought the food, prepared the food, and served it to the community.
Thursday of FFA Week our students took a trip over to Valley Mills elementary to teach the students about environmental sustainability. We read the Lorax and had them complete an activity where they tried to recover oil from an “oil spill." Thank you Valley Mills for allowing our FFA students to spread agricultural literacy to our community!
Thank you to all the students and staff at DCHS who participated in our spirit week and celebrated the awesome things our FFA is doing. Happy National FFA Week!
Learning to serve!
Manufacturing
In Mr. Weisbach's manufacturing classes students are learning to recycle in an interesting way. Students are melting cans into pure aluminum ingots!
