Dear Team,

Today we are concluding both our Campus Improvement Plan and our IB Evaluation. Thank you to all of the committee members, parents, students, our district community, and to all the teachers who really showcased their heart and passion for excellence in education in our classroom visits and committee meetings.

IB in the public school setting is such a gift for our families and the access to education Mason provides is truly special. In this process, being so new to the school and district, and just knowing students for a couple of weeks I am so truly impressed with how much y’all have accomplished in the most challenging of times with the pandemic and the aftermath in society.

The Evaluators saw the evidence of just how deeply our hearts care about our students and what we do as a school and district. I am honored to be in this work with you. The curriculum documents are words on paper - you are the catalyst for bringing it to life in your classroom - and your passion for student success was evident.

More will be shared as we get the finalized reports from our evaluation and our next steps together based upon what was identified by your feedback and voices. This was a monumental year and now we celebrate and build on our success. Thank you for all your contributions to this process directly and indirectly.

Thanks to Austin-based Book People book store, we are THRILLED to welcome author/illustrator LAURIE KELLER to Mason on Wednesday, September 21st! Ms. Keller is a favorite author of our young Mustangs and has a new book, Wake Me in 20 Coconuts, releasing on 9/20 that she is excited to share with our kindergarten through third-grade Mustangs. This clever new story reinforces that it's okay—in fact, it's actually a very good thing—to say “I don't know.” Asking questions leads to discovery, understanding, and insight, and this type of inquiry is a cornerstone of our IB program. In her signature humorous and imaginative style, Laurie Keller takes the embarrassment out of admitting that you don't know something and proves how helpful it can be!

Autographed copies of Wake Me in 20 Coconuts are available for purchase via the Book People website and will be delivered to your child on campus after the author event.

We are excited to kick off our Mason Mustang Adventure Run on 09/30/2022. Our goal is to raise $32,000 for teacher appreciation, field trips, and outdoor learning and to strengthen our school community.

Our school has always relied on fundraising to provide exceptional opportunities to enhance student learning and we need YOUR HELP registering your student(s) and sharing with friends and family.

Counselor Needs Assessment

At the beginning of the year, it is best practice to engage in a counselor needs assessment. The informal assessment is a tool used for parents and staff to communicate individual needs of our students so that we know how to best support our community. The results of this assessment may be used to form lunch bunches, provide individual support, or open lines of communication so that parents feel they can partner with the school. If you feel your child needs any additional support from our school counselor, please take a moment to complete this form. If you have any questions, contact Heather.Mossell@leanderisd.org.

Food Program @ Mason

Mason has a food program for families! For interested families, weekend meal kits are sent home each Friday with students in bags the student can put in their backpacks. In addition, at-school snacks may also be provided. If you believe your student/family would benefit from the program, please fill out the form here. You can select weekend meal kits, snacks, or both. Please complete just one form for the family if you have multiple students at Mason, but please list all of their names on the form. Attendance Reminders

Our Official Attendance Time is 8:15. Please note, this is an adjustment in time from previous years.

Absences should be reported in one of two ways:

1) Attendance email: mason.leanderisd.org / campus info tab / attendance / report an absence

2) Send a note (or doctor's note) when your student returns.

While we appreciate a phone call notification, a hard copy is still required to properly code the attendance record.

*School Dismissal Manager is used for transportation purposes only and is not the acceptable way to report an absence.

As a part of the Long-Range Facilities plan, Leander ISD is expanding our Schools of Choice offerings and we are looking for your feedback on future possibilities.
