Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Year 12:
Mr Hallas would like to congratulate Finley D, Emily, Jasmine, Reese and Holly for delivering a refined and highly professional presentation on their extended project. All five students spoke with real enthusiasm and confidence on their chosen topic.

Maths:
Miss Harrison has nominated 9B1 for their excellent work on their statistics projects. Many students were able to generate their sample data, analyse their data and draw a box plot in 1 lesson.
Mr Lee has made the following nominations this week:
Year 11 student Dejan for excellent work on tackling one-marker questions in preparation for his GCSEs next month. Also nominated are 11A1, 11A2 and 11H for excellent focus in their mock practice recently, 8A1 for their fantastic work with Probability this term, in particular with finding the probability of combined events using sample space diagrams and finally Year 9 students Sophie, Kayden, Amelie, Ant, George, Faith and Emily in year 9 for their consistent work this term that has led to strong score on their three assessments this term.
Miss Kaur has nominated 9A3 for an excellent start to their statistics project where they have been investigating the price differences between holidays in summer and winter. They have used their knowledge and understanding of sampling, averages and quartiles to make and test their hypothesis. Well done 9A3 you are constantly showing me what you are capable of!
Also nominated are 11A1 for making fantastic use of the computer room lessons we are having to enhance their revision and exam technique; you have shown true maturity and dedication during this time. Some students even using this time to stretch their knowledge into A – level! Finally, Maxym (8CO) for his amazing attitude towards helping a new student in our school. You really have shown an incredible amount of kindness in supporting your colleague.

Year 7:
Year 7 have been working hard, learning their parts for a xylophone and glockenspiel class performance next lesson. This has required students to read and perform different pitches as well as rhythms which is no easy feat, but students have been rising to the challenge brilliantly. A special mention goes to 7TE this week for demonstrating great active listening when Miss Patrick is giving instructions - even in a room full of tempting instruments! In particular, Uros, Malgorzata, Melissa and Nikola for their effort - well done!
Year 8 :
Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 8TU for making excellent progress in adding a syncopated bassline to their dance projects this week. Students have demonstrated their fantastic problem-solving abilities and I have been impressed with the way students have worked out the way to correct inaccuracies in their work, by trying things out on GarageBand, rather than asking me first!
Year 9:
This week year 9 have begun their final rehearsals of their samba piece, which has involved students participating in self and peer review to identify areas of their performance that require further practice. Miss Patrick would like to celebrate Blanka, Eva, Nicole I, Andreea and Viktoria in 9CO for their superb organizational skills, which led to effective use of the practice time in the lesson - excellent work!
English:
Year 12 English have been studying the theory behind dialect and speech communities with Mrs Brown and they were asked to complete an idiolect (own language history) research project resulting in a report that details their own language variants. We have received some lovely accounts celebrating the cultural linguistic diversity in our group.
Mrs Brown has been really pleased with the progress made in Year 11 English Literature, students had been writing essays on Power and Conflict poems this week. This essential practice for the upcoming exam has shown students working hard on applying language methods with these poems and drawing out sensitive messages. A celebration especially to Eva, Dylan C, Thomas H, Ella C, Amelia and Hasan for excellent progress.
Mr Toye has nominated Year 8 students Alex P and Erin M for excellent reading of Shakespearian characters in the Tempest and Year 9 student Dominik for mature responses to difficult themes in a challenging text.
Miss Magnay has nominated her Year 11 Language group who have made some great progress with their narrative writing and should be really pleased with their success! Also nominated are Miss Magnay's Year 11 Literature group who have written some excellent analytical work over the last week looking at Romeo and Juliet and Unseen Poetry. Miss Magnay is so impressed with all of them, but in particular the following students: Victoria, Jana, Chanel, Euan, Floreen, Julia, Theo, Silviu, Jess, Harvey and Rhema.
Mrs Morris has nominated Year 11 students Alex B and Dylan S for their fantastic contribution to Media this week. Also nominated are 9B1 for their attitude and effort in English this week and Year 11 student Sean for the tone, techniques and vocabulary used in his letter.
Humanities:
Miss Forbes has nominated Year 12 student Jasmine for consistently pushing herself in History and Year 8 students Gabriel and Natalia for their kind and helpful behaviour each lesson each week as well as their consistent challenging of their own academic knowledge to progress further in History.
Mr Foreman has nominated 7TE and 7ST for the completion of their Mary Rose assessment for Term 4. Also nominated are 7TE (RE) for completion of the five pillars in lesson.
Mr Strumpher has nominated Year 11 students Dawa and Rueben for working hard every lesson and pushing themselves in preparation for the Geography examinations.
Mr Goddard would like to say well done to Year 9 who have been taking their Holocaust presentation assessments very seriously and maturely.
Spanish:
Mrs Bartlett has nominated Year 11 students Annie and Leena for their fantastic speaking exams in Mandarin and French and to all the other students who have completed their Spanish speaking exams. We are really proud of how hard you have tried! We have so many amazing linguists in this school, and Mrs Bartlett would like to make a particular mention to our Year 9 students, who are working hard in lessons and showing off their excellent behaviour for learning and self-motivation, earning them Employability Skills positive reward points.
Mrs Gonzalez-Villamil Lean has nominated 10DSp1 group for their refocusing in lesson, in particular the great work of Lucy, Ollie, Olivia C., Olivia P., Ava, Gretil and Greta. Also nominated are nana, Liam, Arina and Mary (10BSp1) for their work standards and classroom etiquette, Max and Alfred (7CA) for always being so diligent and hardworking, Jahari for his sustained efforts to do well. Finally Sonny (11CSp1) for his unshakeable focus.
DT and Engineering:
Mr McCrory has nominated 9TU who have been learning about concept sketching and have came up with a great selection of concepts for their upcoming birdbox project.
Computer Science:
Mrs Macleod would like to congratulate the following Year 10D/CS1 students for achieving outstanding results in their Computer Science Test. There were 15 students with 100%, 5 Students with 95%, 4 students with 90%, 2 students with 85% and 2 students with 80%. Well done!
Students have completed an Assessment on Systems Architecture. They have shown motivation and dedication to their revision skills during the lesson and at home to do the best they can in their test: Robert, Mariyah, Joprince, Kacper, Joshua, Max, Rhys, Patrikas, Joshua, Dominika, Arian, Cole, Freddie, Dominik, Benjamin, Mihai, Marian, Keely, Stas, Zhivko, Harrison, Daniel, Toby, Toby, Tyler, Shane, Oliver and Linards.
Year 9 - Students have continued to develop their understanding of the investigative cycle by working through the data and analysis steps of the PPDAC cycle, using their own problem and the data that they are investigating. The students have gained experience of data cleansing in order to understand the problems that inaccurate data can pose for data analysis. The following students have put a lot of effort into getting their work completed to a very good standard: Losif, Olivia, Mateus, Vanessa, Lubo, Oliwia, Jasmine, Sian, Veronica, Millar, Peter, Katrina, George and Kyle.
Year 8 - Students have investigated advanced search techniques. They understand how search operators can be used to combine or exclude search terms to either expand or narrow search results. They have practised using these terms for specific purposes. The following students have put a lot of effort and motivation into getting their work completed: Megan, Aurelia, Chantal, Dylan, Alex, Filip, Mirren, Freya, Emie and Gracie.
PE:
Miss Williams has nominated Year 12 Sport and Physical Activity students who have been working extremely hard to prepare for their upcoming exam.
Science:
Mr Godfrey has nominated Year 13 student Arnas for his self-reflective approach to revision, Year 11 students Falun and Ellie for their consistent effort in all physics lessons throughout the year and Year 10 student Harry for his enthusiasm.
Mrs Gill has nominated Ryan W (8AX) who has a had a fantastic few lessons on our force fields topic. A positive attitude, engaged with all practical work and content and is now able to calculate resistance. Well done Ryan.
Miss Coulson has nominated 9BZ who have been really engaged whilst studying health and disease. Also nominated are Year 11 students Riley, Sophie and Dylan S for their excellent dedication to revision in preparation for their exams – Miss Coulson has really noticed the improvement in their confidence and knowledge!
Year 10 Food Tech:
Year 10 learnt about aeration and foams by making some coronation themed meringues this week. Below is a picture of Ethan's which turned out particularly well!
