Reminders
Scorpion N0 ZER0 Zone
We will be implementing a No Zeros Club every Friday from 3:15- 4:30 begining September 13th. This club is for any student in grades 3rd- 8th that has not turned in work and have zeros on these assignments. Each ES teacher can send 2 students and each MS teacher can send 3. Teachera must contact parent beforehand to inform. Please use the spreadsheet below to inform admin who will be attending.
Since we will be having many different grade levels attending, students must know which assignments the must complete. Directions for assignments must be clear (if student does not know directions already). We will also be using this time for students that could possibly be facing LOC.
We will be meeting in the library starting at 3:15pm and will begin at 3:30pm.
Power Hour
Power will being the week of September 9th and will take place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (due to Monday meetings and crossguard scheduling). If you would like to have UIL practice on Monday or Friday, please advise admin in advance so we can arrange crossing services (if needed).
Please see Ms. Parada if you are a SPED or lower grade teacher that would like to work power hour (we have you work on foundational skills with our Tier 3 students). Please bring in high Tier 3 students and Tier 2 students at this time (we will try to group our low Tier 3 students with SPED and lower grade teachers that would like to work). Please refer to Ms. Davis Lopez' email regarding snacks.
HIgh Percentage of Failing and Absent Students
Admin will be scheduling meetings with teachers who have a high percentage of students that are failing and/or absent. Please ensure that all grades are submitted weekly and phone calls are being made to parents. Thank you
Customer Service is 1st
Please ensure that customer service is continously displayed. Overall we are doing a great job! Just some reminders:
- Please answer classroom phone by stating your name some where in the greeting (ex: Good morning, this is Ms. Parada; Good afternoon, Mr. Nazario's Classroom).
- Please treat all parents and collegues in a professional manner. This includes Class Dojo, where sometimes less is more. Please keep in mind that answering parent messages after hours is up to teacher discretion. Please see admin if you need assistance with parent communication.
- Please keep classroom or office space tidy and clutter free. Parents, community members, and district personnel visit us on a repeated basis.
These are just reminders, as many visitors report that they love our campus culture! Please continue to do all the great things you are doing!!
Parking in Handicap Spaces
Please assist us with only using the handicap spaces if you have a handicap placard or handicap plates. Thank you
ALL Things Concerning Teacher Absences
Teachers, the following MUST be in place immediately:
- Emergency lesson plans MUST be created and left somewhere by your desk. Please plan on at least a week of emergency plans. Emergencies occur, and there must be work left for substitutes. This is not a SCEI coaches' responsibility.
- Emergency "Farm Out" procedures for Elementary: Thank you to all teachers that have turned in their farm out lists (lists of students that will be placed with certain teachers in the event that there is no sub). SPED staff, instructional aides, counselors, etc are NOT able to cover classes (subsituting and covering classes is not in their job description and is not allowed due to their funding and federal guidelines). We do not have onsite personnel to cover classes. These were due last week. Please turn these lists in ASAP.
- Middle School Coverage Schedule: Please speak to collegues to see who is able to cover your class during their prep time. Please keep in mind that most teachers (minus Spanish and PE) have two prep periods a day. Please assist each other and provide coverage. These plans were also due to me last week. Please submit ASAP.
- DPLC Days, to include all training by district: It is best practice for teachers to report to campus before any district training to ensure that a sub will be covering a class. In the event that a sub does not show up or cancels, teacher MUST stay on campus. Please check absence day before and day of to see if sub is still assigned. In the event that teacher did not submit the absence or did not request a sub, teacher MUST stay on campus.
Laptops
Thank you for informing us of students that are in need of laptops. At this time, we district is working with us to get loaners to issue out to all our student that do not have a laptop. Thank you again for your patience.
Lesson Frames
Lesson frames are a non-negotiable and must be posted daily in a visible area in the classroom. If you need assistance with lesson frames, please contact our SCEI coaches as soon as possible. Thank you to all teachers who have their lesson frames posted.
Color Copies
Due to budget restrictions, we will not continue with a color printer. We also have restrictions on color copies from the main office. If you are in need of color copies, please note the following:
- Must get approval from SCEI coaches or admin (please do not ask our clerks to print out for you)
- Copies must be for repeated use (such as copies for stations that will be used repeatedly)
- Please limit to no more than 20 for a month
I receive a monthly usage report that will inform me of black/white and color copy use. We have a budgeted amount for the year, and if usage exceeds, we will have to discontinue color copy access. Thank you
Door Window Coverings
Please do not cover your door windows with paper or curtains. Curtains MUST be pulled to the side and paper MUST be rolled/ lifted up. This is for teacher and student safety
Friday Jeans, Thursday Jeans Donation
Great news! As an incentive to donate to our hospitality fund, we are excited to offered a jeans opportunity for all! $20 for hourly staff and $40 all others will allow you to wear jeans every Thursday and the months of May and June! Please see Ms. Felipa starting tomorrow to donate!
Clarification of Student Tardies
The MS doors and ES gate drop off are both closed at 7:45am. Students are on campus and making their way to class. Tardy students arrive after 7:45am and will have a tardy slip.
Teacher recommendations for CIS, school supplies
Please let Ms. Diana Lopez, CIS know if you have any students that are in need of school supplies. If there are any students that you would like to recommend to her program, please let her know.
Calling of Admin for Assistance
Please call admin for assistance with students. We will then filter out the call depending on the need. Please do not contact Ms. Marta in the front. Calls that warrant immediate admin assistance include the following: hitting/endangerment of students, throwing items in the class, lost students
Faculty Meetings, Committee Meetings, DPLCs, and other Scheduled Events
Team, please schedule appointments and any other errands or activities around scheduled events. Advanced notice is given for meetings and events. It is understandable if an emergency occurs, but repeated absences from scheduled meetings will be addressed by administration. In the event that you are not able to attend a scheduled event, please advise your AP and Ms. Parada as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.
Event Coordinators
All sports, fine arts, UIL, and other group coordinators (STUCO, NJHS, GT, ETC), must advise Ms. Parada of any students that try out for events, that are participating in events, the date and time of events, and outcome (scores, placing, etc). Parents love for their child to be celebrated (and the child loves to be celebrated as well!) and want their child or team to be celebrated on our newsletter (please email Ms. Portillo, parent liaison, to add information to our Scorpion Shout-Outs) and announcements (please email Ms. Davis Lopez to add to morning announcements). I also need to be informed so a member of admin can attend these functions to support our Scorpions! If you are in charge of any student group, communication is necessary to keep admin in the loop. If you have any questions, please reach out to me, Ms. Parada. Thank you!
Parent Sign Ins and Tardy Sweeps
We will continue conducting tardy sweeps first thing in the morning (7:45am). Any student in grades 3rd-8th that is found outside during a tardy sweep, will be assigned detention that same day (AM tardy) or the next day (PM tardy). Students should always be counted tardy in the system regardless of tardy sweeps. Parents were informed via newsletter last week. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Running Late?
The safety of our Scorpions is #1. Please send a text to your admin and Ms. Parada if you will not be on campus and at your assigned/designated location on time. Please keep in mind that teachers need to be in class, ready to greet our Scorpions by 7:30am. Please know that frequent/repeated lateness will be addressed by administration. Thank you in advance.
Absences
We all know that things come up and emergencies happen. Please send a courtesy text to admin (to your AP and Ms. Parada) to inform us that you will be out. (Not needed for DPLC, approved personal days).
Please know that the district requires medical certification due to a questionable pattern of absences or when deemed necessary by the Supervisor or Superintendent. Individual conversations with teachers or staff members will take place if there seems to be a questionable pattern of absences. Thank you in advance.
Teks Resource System (TRS)
To ensure that we are making the most of the TEKS Resource System, Academic Services will be closely monitoring its usage. All teachers are required to access the TEKS Resource System at least once a week. This will help you stay up-to-date on lesson planning, pacing and resources to improve the quality of education we are providing to our students. Your compliance will be greatly appreciated, and a usage report will be sent out at the end of this week.
Walkthroughs- Admin, SCEI Coaches, Cabinet
Class and campus walkthroughs are on-going and unannounced. Walkthroughs are a way to gather information and a way to provide support (if needed) and opportunities for growth.
Please note the non-negotiables:
- Lesson Frames for every subject taught MUST be posted (regardless of day of the week, time of the day, holiday, etc)
- Lesson Frames must reflect what is being taught
- Lesson Frames MUST have corresponding SE's posted
- Capturing Kids Heart Social Contact (new teachers will be trained soon)
