YOUTH MONTHLY VIRTUAL CALENDAR
- 1:30PM First Sunday of the Month
- Zoom Link: https://tinyurl.com/cbcyouthpraise (860 4804 6335)
- First official Youth Praise will start Sept. 6th
DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS (DGs) // Discipleship groups are designed for each youth to grow together with other students in order to live life together and pursue Christ together. The main purpose of DGs is more for community and discipleship than it is a traditional bible study group. The bulk of our youth group's teaching will come from ACCESS and Youth Praise. Each DG is led by a DG leader who is to be their mentor and coach throughout the year. Since the majority of the youth's growth this semester will depend on weekly interactions, we expect each youth not only to attend DG meetings, but also get involved in the lives of their DG members.
- Meets weekly at various times (except for the first week of the month)
- Times & schedules will be sent out by each DG leader.
- Each youth will be assigned their new DG by August 30
VIRTUAL ACCESS // ACCESS is our youth group's version of Sunday school and is designed to provide the youth weekly teaching of the bible, theology, and doctrine. ACCESS will provide various tracks in which a student can sign up for during the semester according to their interests and needs.
- Meets weekly at 8:00-9:15pm on Friday nights
- Zoom link: https://tinyurl.com/cbcaccess2020 (865 7478 1380)
- ACCESS Kickoff starts Sept. 4
The Back-to-School Supplies Parents Need
AUGUST 13, 2020 | JEN POLLOCK MICHEL
In the pandemic journal I’ve been keeping, it’s easy to trace the waves I’ve been riding: waves of optimism and loneliness, waves of resolution and resignation. Uncertainty is universal, especially as students look to the new academic year. To stare past September is to try seeing through fog.
Families face acute anxieties, especially working parents who might again be managing their children’s education from home. At the mercy of the virus and school-district officials, we’re reminded of how little control we have. As Christians, though, we also hold to real hope: even in trial, God is always up to something good.
Here are four invitations for families to embrace in uncertainty.
Survey: Majority of American Christians Don’t Believe the Gospel
The Story: A new survey finds that a majority of people who describe themselves as Christian accept a “works-oriented” means to God’s acceptance.
The Background: A survey conducted by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University find that American adults today increasingly adopt a “salvation-can-be-earned” perspective. A plurality of adults (48 percent) believe that if a person is generally good, or does enough good things during their life, they will “earn” a place in heaven. Only one-third of adults (35 percent) disagree.
What It Means: Christians who believe that salvation can be earned need to read the New Testament.
Ten Things to Pray for Teachers, Schools, and Leaders
If 2020 has taught us anything, it should be pretty obvious that we don’t have as much control over our lives as we once thought we did. So many things we used to rely on are vulnerable (our health), confusing (our media and government), or unpredictable (well, most everything). It’s a sweet relief to remember that God has not been surprised by any of this chaos. Still, trusting Him is hard work for us fallen human beings, and we want to be able to do something in the midst of our circumstances.
With that in mind, we’d like to invite the Rooted community to pray together this week. Each day we will post a list of prayers, drawing from the deep well of God’s Word to nourish our souls as we cry out to Him together with one voice.
