Weekly Bulletin
Week of 2-5-2024
Message from Principal Blagg
Good afternoon Parker Families,
It was a fantastic week at Parker with students working hard and having fun. When visiting classrooms, it is common to see students collaborating with one another, troubleshooting, and devising solutions to the problems posed by their teachers. The skills developed in these settings will help prepare our students for success in the future.
Second Step
We continued with our social emotional curriculum this week. Grade five students finished their unit on Empathy and Kindness with some extension activities. The ability for our students to develop empathy for others has been a central theme. In doing so we make our school community safer and more inclusive.
Grade 6 Thoughts and Emotions: What Works Best for You?
Our sixth grade students continued with their unit on thoughts and emotions.
Summary
In this week’s lesson, your child will practice choosing an emotion-management strategy that works best for them in a given setting. They’ll look at several different settings and pick a strategy they think will work for them.
Question
Discuss different scenarios that might happen at home or school where your child might need to use an emotion-management strategy. Talk through the scenarios and ask your child to share their thinking and reasoning with you.
As we progress into February, we are excited for some upcoming events.
February 2-3 - McCarthy Middle School presents the Lion King - more details below. Come out and support our students as they perform this classic!
February 8 - Half Day Professional Development day - Dismissal at 11:10 am
February 12-16 Souper Bowl and PRIDE Spirit Week
We will be continuing the tradition of running a food drive to benefit the Chelmsford Food Pantry during this week. This week will also include spirit days run by our student council, a focus on a different PRIDE value each day, and will culminate with a grade level ultimate volleyball extravaganza! More detail are forthcoming.
Thought of the Week
"Change is inevitable. Growth is optional." - John C. Maxwell
Have a great weekend everyone. Please reach out if you need support.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS & ACTIVITIES & LATE BUSES
Our after-school programs will start on Tuesday, October 17th. The Activity Fee is $50 per student. PLEASE CLICK ON LINK My School Bucks or send in cash or check made payable to Chelmsford Public Schools and turn into your child's homeroom teacher. The activity fee allows students to take full advantage of any clubs they wish to attend. The after-school activities run from 2:40-3:40 on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday throughout the year. Students also have the option of taking a late bus home. The routes are posted in the school and will not be posted publicly. We will work with students and the drivers to be sure students take the correct bus home. Since we only have 8 late buses, for both McCarthy and Parker the stops tend to be more spread out than the “regular” bus runs. After activities, students who are not taking a bus will exit the school into the Crooked Spring Road lot and can be picked up there.
