MST Weekly Update
January 6, 2023
Happy New Year to all. As we enter the first week of 2023, we are quickly approaching the end of the 2nd quarter which is January 25th. Students are being reminded to make sure that they are caught up on all missing assignments so that they will show progress (2 or better) on their 2nd quarter report cards.
We are seeing a bit of an increase in illness, which is not uncommon at this time of year. A reminder that if your child is out sick, and you call in to the school, they still need to bring in a written note when they return so that the absence can be excused. You can also email Ms. Jenkins (jjenkins@mansd.org) to tell us that your child is sick and that will also count as your note as long as it's from the email that we have on file for you.
The MRE Challenge
The MST MRE (Meals Ready to Eat) competition team of Sezar Faraj, Evan Byrne, Kira Harrison and Mason Beausoleil competed at Pinkerton Academy on December 15 and defeated 6 teams to advance to the finals on January 12 in Laconia. The competition is a “chopped" style competition where students reconstruct Army MREs into fine dining quality presentations. Congratulations to our culinary students and best of luck in the next round!
You're A Not So Mean One, Mr. Grinch
Student Council, in conjunction with the Griffin's Den (our school store), sponsored 3 days of fun prior to the holiday break, with their "Whoville Pop-up Village." Students competed for prizes during each lunch and had the opportunity to meet the Grinch himself. To help everyone's heart grow 3x larger, donations were accepted for charities selected by students. Great work by our student council and the staff of the Griffin's Den!
The First Student Assistance Student Assistance Program Comes to MST High
Student Assistance Programs (S.A.P.s) have been in place at the other high schools and middle schools in Manchester for decades. This is the first year that there is a Student Assistance Program (S.A.P.) at MST High School. MST High students now have the opportunity to participate in peer support groups and get help with substance use, to cope with the substance misuse of a family member, to manage stress or to grieve the death of a loved one. Most students sign up to participate on their own. Friends, teachers, administrators, parents and other concerned people can make referrals. Participation in the program by students is voluntary and confidential. More information about the Student Assistance Program (S.A.P.) is available on the MST home page under Guidance Services (Manchester School of Technology - SAP Student Assistant Program (mansd.org)).
Please contact Mary-Jo Bourque at 603-624-6490 X2113 for more information.
CTE Open House
MST will have an open house on Thursday February 2nd, from 5:30-7:30. This is an opportunity for all 9th and 10th grade students from Manchester and surrounding towns to visit our CTE programs. Many teachers will be available to explain their programs and answer questions. CTE course selection will occur in early February for all MSTHS 9th grade students.
Possible Change of Date for the Prom
Last week we received a call from our planned prom venue, The Executive Court Banquet Facility, informing us that they were closing and that our Friday May 12th prom reservation has been cancelled. We are looking at rescheduling the event at a new location. The new date will likely be Friday May 19th. More information will follow as soon as we confirm the plans.
