Club Spotlight: Beauty and the Beast Jr.
The GMS Theatre Club is showing Beauty and the Beast Jr. this year, directed by Jennifer Ohlrogge and Michelle Lindner. This is the 6th year that we have had a musical at GMS. There will be a total of 6 shows over 2 weekends—the dates are January 26 and 27 and February 2 and 3.
Students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades participate in all aspects both on stage and behind the scenes. Auditions were held in August, and the cast was decided on by a team of directors. Anyone could audition to be in the show. Students rehearse up to 4 days a week, including some Saturdays. A collaborative team of faculty/staff members work with students in the areas of music, characterization, and choreography.
Behind the scenes, a student set crew helps built the set and props, assists backstage during shows, and runs lights. During the shows, a group of NJHS students help with seating and handing out programs.
We also have a team of faculty/staff members who supervise the set crew, organize concessions, ticket sales, donations from the community, and marketing.
