The biggest event of the fall is quickly approaching! Blue & Gold Night will be held this Wednesday, October 25, in the Akins courtyard from 5:30 - 8:30 pm. PTSA volunteers work the ticket booths at this event and will also be hosting an amazing gift card wall fundraiser. If you're able to volunteer to work a shift, please sign up here.

One of the goals of the Akins PTSA this year is to increase student involvement and recognition. As part of this goal, we are creating an opportunity for both scholarships and graduation service cords for our student members.

Please join us on Monday, October 23, from 6:00 - 7:00 pm for a planning meeting to help determine the criteria to be used for these awards.

We welcome parent, student, teacher, staff, and community member input in this process and encourage all interested parties to attend.

The Akins PTSA will be working the visitor's side concession stand at the Akins vs. Johnson varsity football game on October 27, 2023. This event will help us to raise funds for all of the exciting programs and activities we have planned this year, including teacher appreciation events, college and financial aid planning workshops, and student scholarships and support.

If you are able to volunteer an hour or two to help, we'd appreciate it. You can view the possible shifts and sign up at this link.

Our Akins custodial staff are absolutely amazing! We appreciate them every day of the year, but big thanks to Texas Roadhouse for providing a delicious lunch to celebrate them during Custodial Staff Appreciation Week.

The best way for our community to be successful is when everyone works together, and that includes students. We would like to boost our student membership this year to allow their voices to be heard in our planning and decision-making.

We hold monthly student PTSA meetings during FIT and have opportunities for students to serve in leadership roles as committee chairs or even as parliamentarian of the PTSA. This is a great way for your student to get involved and to build their resume.

This is also the first year that the PTSA will offer student scholarships and the opportunity for students to earn PTSA service cords. Please encourage your student to join PTSA so that they are eligible for these opportunities.

Student dues are only $10 and can be paid in cash at a meeting or online here.

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees is resuming conversations about the superintendent profile and hiring process.

Why it matters: The board will seek community input to determine if there is a need for a nationwide search process in the spring.

The backstory: On March 30, trustees voted to extend the contract of Interim Superintendent Matias Segura for a year and pause the superintendent search.

• Interim Superintendent Segura’s contract is currently set to expire June 30, 2024.

Each month, the Akins PTSA offers prizes to teachers and staff who are paid members. In October, the winner was Ms. Jochem and her prize was coverage of her 8th period class on a Friday by Principal Herbin so she could start her weekend just a little bit early.

Don't worry, if you didn't win this time, you can still join PTSA by November 15 to be entered in our next drawing. The November prize is a fabulous gift basket provided by some of our generous local businesses.

The Akins Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is a non-profit volunteer organization which serves to support the students, teachers, and staff at Akins Early College High School through volunteering and fundraising.

We have more than 2,600 students at Akins and our goal this year is 150 members. So far, we have 90.

As a member of the PTSA you can attend short monthly meetings throughout the year that will enable you to make suggestions and provide your input. If you don't have time to attend meetings but still want to help, you can choose to become a member and your dues will financially support our annual goals. You can also donate to specific projects at the same link below.

By getting involved or just paying your membership dues, you’ll be part of the solution, helping to make a positive change for our campus and our community. There is no wrong way to PTSA!

What is the CAC?

Campus Advisory Councils are committees of parents, students, business and community representatives, teachers, principals, and other campus staff. The formation of CACs is required by state law (Texas Education Code, §11.251).

What does the CAC do?

Specific functions of CACs include providing review and comment on:

• Campus Educational Program
• Campus Performance
• Campus Improvement Plan
• Campus Staff Development Plan
• Campus-Level Waiver Requests to the State
• Campus Budget

When does the CAC Meet?

We meet on the first Wednesday of every month form 6:30 - 7:30 in room 146. CAC members are strongly encouraged to also attend our monthly PTSA meetings, conveniently scheduled for the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm.
