AP Scholars
College Board thanks AP Readers
This week, the College Board recognized the contributions of AP Readers throughout the country. In June, their participation in the Advanced Placement (AP®) Reading, along with the participation of over 23,000 dedicated high school teachers and college faculty, gave almost 2.9 million students the chance to complete their AP journeys and earn college credits for their learning throughout the year. "One good thing about being an AP Reader is understanding what the College Board really means by the rubrics," said Mr. Cooper.

Corbett in the News
Soccer (Boys)
The team had a busy week, playing twice at home and once at Portland Adventist Academy. They tied 3-3 on Monday against De La Salle. On Wednesday, the team was defeated 0-2. Coach Brian Paul was proud of the team's efforts in Wednesday's lost, explaining, "Even though the score did not come out in our favor, everyone who was there watched our guys play with as much heart and skill as ever! Good job guys! Sometimes the effort is there but the result you want is not." Friday's home game was a tough loss against Westside Christian. Although team controlled the ball about half the game, there were lots of near-miss shots on goal. "Our guys are getting better with every passing game and it is so hard to see in this stretch. We see it though, and so does everyone else who comes out to watch them!" reflected Coach Paul after Friday's game.

The Cardinals lost 16-40 against Knappa at home on Friday evening. Mac Garrett, Alex Kinnear, and Zane Davis had good games on offense, with two of them scoring a touchdown. Defensively, Mac Garrett, Turner Van Hee and Armin Mehanovic had strong games as well. After the game, the coaches commented, "The boys are coming together as a team more and while we lost, we learned a couple of important lessons that will help us in the games to come." Wind Ensemble, Corbett High School's band (pictured right) played in the stands to encourage the team and fans.

Cross Country
At the Bridget Nelson Meet in the Dalles, on Friday 9/22, runners faced a challenging course with hills, heat, and an uneven running surface. Historically, most runners finish about 2 minutes slower on this course than their Personal Record. "Our runners not only met my hopes for this race, so many of them surpassed my expectations," described Coach Rondema after the races. Joey Kirnan set a season record, and Anna Rondema and Zevi Gross both set personal records. Olivia McGrew placed 8th overall in the women's race out of thirty-six competitors.
Last week’s Corbett Baton recipient, Joey, passed the baton to Logan Matias. Joey mentioned Logan’s cheerfulness and the fact that he never complains. Joey also noticed that the harder the workout, the harder Logan pushes himself.
