Bakery Open for business!
Kindergarten is excited to have new dramatic play units that match their literacy curriculum, Superkids.
Mrs. Resor's class loved having the bakery in their classroom as they learned about Cass and the letter C.
Meet Cass
Each kindergarten literacy unit introduces a letter and sound through a Super Kids friend. The Superkids have their own personalities, background, likes, and dislikes. After each unit, Kinders celebrate the Super Kid they’ve been learning about. The first Superkid Kinders met was Cass, who likes to cook casserole concoctions with her cat Coconut. They had fun cutting and sorting foods out of magazines, having a float/sink discovery center with fruits and vegetables, using balance scales with fruits and vegetables, pretending in the bakery center, making a cooking caps like Cass’, and writing “Our Favorite Foods” book.
Meet Oswald
Kinders also met Oswald this month. He likes to learn about and create odd animals. For Oswald Center day, Kinders created and drew odd animals by using magnetic animal pieces, sorted animal manipulatives, wrote “Our Favorite Animal Book,” and pretended to be zoo keepers. As zoo keepers they washed the animals, fed and watered them, and gave them checkups with flashlights and magnifying glasses.
First Grade
Mrs. Schlotterbeck's Apple Day
Mrs. Schlotterbeck's first grade friends have been busy with all things APPLES! We learned about the life cycle of the apple tree, how an apple tree changes through the seasons, and all about the legend of Johnny Appleseed. We celebrated APPLE DAY by peeling and chopping our own apples to make applesauce and sampling a variety of other apple-inspired snacks too!
