Message from Mrs. Ward
This week the Governor of Massachusetts and the Commissioner of Education announced the end of the mask mandate in schools. On February 28th, masks will become optional at Hatherly School. We understand at Hatherly School, just as we helped students transition to wearing mask we need to help them as masks come off. It will be up to each student to decide to wear a mask or not. Next week our counseling staff, Laura Dempsey and Colleen Franke, and as well as our nurse, Nurse Jessica, will conduct lessons in each classroom focused on any questions or concerns students may have about this change. Our goal is to ensure that the students are shown respect from their peers around their personal decision and any fears are alleviated. As you discuss these decisions as a family, please reach out to any one of us if you feel your student needs additional conversations.
This is one more new situation for all of us. However, just as we have done before we will work together through this development.
Tip of the Week from PEAR
As we approach year 3 of the pandemic it’s easy to feel stuck, not sure of when or how to move forward. While we can’t control many of the things in the world that impact our lives, there are ways to get out of a rut. One thing that can help is recentering on your goals or purpose. Write down WHY you do the work you do, spend time with the people you do etc. Just the reminder can be helpful in keeping going. Then try something new! Doing a new activity, talking to someone you wouldn’t usually talk to, or even eating a new food can help you feel unstuck.
Hathery's Love Wall
Over the past two weeks we have worked on creating a "Love Wall" inspired by street artist, James Goldcrown. Every member of the Hatherly community had the chance to add their own heart to the front lobby display. Colorful, messy, quiet, loud, happy and quirky - we are all there together! James Goldcrown's mural can be found in cities across the globe.
Getting To Know You! Mrs. Berton - Art Teacher
Mrs. Berton lives in Scituate with her husband and their fluffy, white dog named Romeo. She has a grown son and daughter, Harry and Isabelle who spend lots of time with her! Mrs. Berton creates her own art in her clay studio – you can find some of her work in local Scituate shops. The Bertons love to read, walk to the lighthouse, explore World’s End, and play lots of games like Mexican Train, Ticket to Ride, and Catan.
