Dear Lincoln, Logan & McPherson County 4-H Families,
The cold month of January is coming to an end. We have Nebraska 4-H month to look forward to in February. Here is how LLM 4-H will be celebrating:
- 4-H Spirit Day on Thursday, February 1st
- 4-H Volunteer Appreciation Day on Thursday, February 8th
- 4-H Supporters and Donors Appreciation Day on Thursday, February 15th
- 4-H Open House on February 17th
- Day of 4-H Service or Give Back to Your Community on Thursday, February 22nd
- Leap into 4-H β Get Enrolled on 4-HOnline on Thursday, February 29th

If you need help please contact the office at 308-532-2683, please note you will NOT create a new account unless you are new to 4-H this year. You will use last years information to get into your account and sign up.
If you get enrolled by April 15th, 2024 you will be entered in a fun drawing for early enrollment!
Livestock Advisory Meeting Update
moved due to cold temps and is now on January 29th @ 7 pm.
Tom Hansen Memorial 4-H Scholarship
Tom Hansen Memorial 4-H Scholarship has been set up by his family to honor Tom's memory and help those that share the same passion that Tom had for showing livestock.
Scholarship Amount: $500
Criteria: You must be a graduating Senior who has exhibited either goats, swine, sheep, or beef in Lincoln or Frontier County 4-H Clubs. Applicants DO NOT need to pursue a degree in agriculture.
Requirements: Submit a short essay that includes the number of years you have shown livestock and which species you have exhibited. Highlight your accomplishments and experiences. Please share how your 4-H experience has impacted you as an individual. Please include where you plan to attend college and what your prospective major will be.
Please attach the following: A resume or list of other extracurricular activities with your essay. Also include a reference letter from a non-family member.
Deadline: Submit applications via email by April 1. Remit applications to: jkasphansen@outlook.com
Scholarship winners will be announce in May.

Special Garden Project
We are reaching out to all 4-H members to see who would be interested in doing the Special Garden Project this year. The deadline to let the office know if you would be interested in this project is February 9, 2024. Please call the office and let us know if your child is interested in the 2024 Special Garden Project so we can order their seeds. Cost for the seeds to 4-H youth is $.50/youth who signs up and due at time of pick up of seeds when we receive them in the office. With the changes to 4-H online, youth are encouraged to enroll for Horticulture/Plant Science. When you call the office we will place you on a list for the special garden project and when the seeds come in we will let you know and get you the seeds along with the educational materials including the growing newsletter & evaluation.
2024 Special Garden Project
Princess of India Nasturtium- this Victorian-era flower can be grown in a variety of ways including in containers. It provides a splash of color from its scarlet flowers and much of the plant can be eaten.

Lincoln County Youth Livestock Sale Meetings
Meeting Dates:
Sunday, February 18th at 2 pm. at Centennial Hall
Sunday, June 9th at 2 pm. at Centennial Hall
Sunday, September 15th at 2 pm. at Centennial Hall- This is the first meeting for the 2025 season
*Participation at meetings is required to avoid the non-participation penalty assessed to livestock sale checks for the 2024 sale. For questions contact the Sale Committee President Tyrell Rousey at 308-530-9279. *

Bull Bash Judging Contest
Heart City Bull Bash Judging Contest. The contest will be held on Saturday February 10th at Valentine Livestock Auction in Valentine, NE. For more information or sign-up forms you can contact the office or stop by and we can get them to you.
NCG Classic Winter Edition
The NCG Classic is having their judging contest on February 17th. Registrations are due February 5th.
2024 Corn Yield Challenge
We are delighted to announce the Corn Yield Challenge, a prestigious contest open to 4-H members (aged 8 and older as of January 1st) and FFA members (in-school members). This competition is designed to guide participants through a comprehensive exploration of all facets of corn production, including aspects related to agricultural careers associated with corn production.

4-H Spring Rabbit Show
The 4-H Spring Rabbit Show will be held on Saturday, March 16, 9 a.m. at Sandhills Global Event Center, 84th & Havelock β South Hall. Open to all youth ages 8β18, with a Clover Kids class for youth ages 5β7. This is a great opportunity for youth to talk to other 4-Hβers about where to purchase a good rabbit for a 4-H project, and to learn and practice showmanship. Rabbit Quiz and Breed Identification contests are free for youth to enter! Again this year: the knowledge contests are open to adults for a minimal fee!
Virtual Horse Judging Camp
This is an online horse judging camp for anyone thinking about giving horse judging a try! The camp includes at-home assignments, reasons critique, 4 interactive virtual meetings, quizzes, and certificate of completion!
Dates: February 8, 15, 22 and 29
Time: 7-8:30 pm Eastern time, 6-7:30pm Central time

Hippology Academy
It's back! The 2024 Hippology Academy kicks off on February 17. Topics for this year include toxic plants of the northeast, horse evaluation, feeding myths, soil testing and usage, identifying feeds, and fencing.
There are three enrollment levels to choose from: Bronze, Silver, & Gold
