Celebrating another week at Berryton Elementary School

Berryton Families,


A few things I have observed and experienced over the past few weeks:


  • Veteran's Day- We had a great time honoring over 30 veterans who graced us with their presence at our assembly on Monday. Students did a great job of showing respect and celebrating our veterans. Our students also performed music from all the branches of our Armed Forces as well as some patriotic favorites.


  • Art- Mrs. Foster's Preschool students are preparing for our BES Craft Fair by making bracelets and art that will be sold to raise funds towards getting new tricycles.


  • Native American Research- Our 5th graders are spending tremendous amounts of time researching various Native American groups.


  • Creation Station- Students in Mrs. Edwards first grade classroom spent time designing and creating various structures with everyday materials. Our Buffalo staff and students are so creative!


  • Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum- This was the first year for our 4th graders to head to Abilene and see the Eisenhower presidential library and museum. We had a great time exploring primary and secondary sources as well as seeing President Eisenhower's childhood home.


  • Homemade Pumpkin Pie- Yesterday I served pumpkin pie to all of our students that took hot lunch. The pie was delicious and our students had excellent manners.


Today we will kick off the Major Saver fundraiser at 1:45. I have attached a pdf below which details exactly what specials are included for the Major Saver card. Recently we have seen an increase in students with illnesses so I shared a link which details when students should stay home due to illness and when they are safe to return.

Thank you Mr. Mack!

Last week was national School Psychology Awareness Week. We are thrilled to have Austin Mack serve as our School Psychologist. A few things that Mr. Mack does to serve our Buffaloes:


*Completes assessments to further understand student's strengths and challenges


*Provide research and data on Behavioral Interventions


*Collaborate with Special Education staff members


We appreciate the time and effort that Mr. Mack gives to Berryton Elementary.

Coats, Hats, and Scarves- Oh My!

It is getting towards the time of year where students need gear for colder weather, and this gear can be expensive. Thus, if you have any needs for getting students coats, hats, gloves, or scarves please contact Mrs. Melissa Boyer, School Counselor. Her email is boyerm@usd450.net. She has numerous community contacts and is a great resource.

If your child is going to be absent, arriving late, or leaving early, please be sure to notify Mrs. Howbert in the office. You can do that by email at howbertt@usd450.net or by phone at 785-861-1300. If you need to call during non business hours, please be sure to leave a message on our voicemail. Mrs. Howbert will then get your message when she gets in during business hours.

About Me

As an elementary principal I enjoy working collaboratively with staff members to support student learning. I am passionate about continuing to learn professionally, and building relationships with staff and students at Berryton Elementary. When I'm not serving at Berryton Elementary I am usually with my husband and two sons. We can be found at sporting events, cheering on Kansas State University, or just enjoying a movie at home.
