Principals' Announcements
2nd Semester Reminders & Information
1. DRESS CODE ITEMS
Hoods, hats, and obvious outdoor coats are not permitted. As a result of increased concerns with being able to identify students, we need to re-emphasize the expectation that hooded sweatshirts (with hood up), ball caps/winter hats (including full ski masks) and outdoor coats are not permitted.
Student Insubordination – if, during a moment when a staff member requests a student remove their hood/hat/other, and the student becomes disrespectful and insubordinate, the student will also be issued consequences for such behavior.
2. EARBUDS, AIR PODS, ETC. – Earbuds or other listening devices are NOT PERMITTED whatsoever in hall ways or other general areas around the school. Often, we have a need to make announcements or make conversation with students while they are walking. Ear buds inhibit effective communication and pose a safety and security risk as well in the event. Individual teachers MAY allow earbuds to be used, as iPads, computers and certain classwork may require ear bud use. However, teachers have discretion in classrooms, but a whole group/classroom must be permitted, not just individual students. Earbuds may also be used during lunch in at LUNCH ONLY. Consequences for misuse are the same as those highlighted under DRESS CODE ITEMS above.
3. SMART/CELL PHONES - Using phones within a classroom during a lesson is both a distraction to the student and teacher, but also to others around the student, and therefore remain not permitted during instructional time.
- Students MAY USE their phones in between classes, at lunch, and before or after school.
- The phones may not distract in any way from the instruction going on in the room.
- This procedure includes use of any Apple or other Smart Watch in which students can use Bluetooth and still communicate with his/her phone. If a watch or other similar device is a distraction, it will be considered the same as a smart/cell phone.
- Some teachers will have the expectation that smart/cell phones be placed in a container as students walk in the door of the classroom, and then retrieve the device as they are leaving. If a student’s phone is out, being used, or is a distraction at all, the phone will be confiscated by the teacher and delivered to the main office. There will be NO WARNING. The office will label the phone and place it in locked storage. Consequences for misuse are the same as those highlighted under DRESS CODE ITEMS above. 1st offense – item given back to student at end of day and student issued after-school detention.
Students will face increasing consequences for each infraction, including:
- 1st offense – given back to student at end of day and student issued after-school detention
- 2nd offense – given back to parent/guardian who must physically come in to retrieve it and student issued Saturday morning detention
- 3rd offense – mandatory meeting with student and parent, and only given back to parent. Student issued ISS for 1 day
- 4th offense – mandatory meeting with student and parent, parent encouraged to take phone from student for a period of time. Student issued ISS for 3 days.
4. SILVER CORD VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Students should continue to utilize our online platform for submitting their hours. You can access our online service hours management system at: https://www.2xvol.com/login.html
5. ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS
Please remember that there is a direct correlation between school attendance and achievement. When students miss school or are late, they miss valuable instruction. Please make sure that when your student is absent they submit their excuse within three days of their return to school. Students who are late repeatedly will face disciplinary consequences.

Counselors' Corner
On December 14, 2021, Mr. Smith, outreach counselor, and Mrs. Rippey presented a lesson to all 9th grade students that utilized the Signs of Suicide (SOS) curriculum. SOS is a nationally recognized suicide prevention program offered by The Center for Suicide Prevention and Research (CSPR) at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Students were taught possible warning signs of depression and suicide and were encouraged to seek help if they or someone they know could be in need.
Mrs. Rippey visited English 9 classes for a week in December to teach students about course options and educational opportunities available throughout their high school experience. Students completed a tentative 4-Year College and Career Plan, including projected high school coursework that aligns with their interests and future goals. Students also completed an activity in Smart Futures, our district’s career planning and portfolio platform, that had them reflect on their possible career path post high school. The lesson will be repeated for students enrolled in this course during the second semester.
Mrs. Rippey visited English 10 classes for two class blocks each in January to explore a number of college and career readiness topics. Students completed several activities within Smart Futures, including a personality type assessment and an activity exploring their abilities and aptitudes. They also analyzed how these factors relate to possible career options and explored careers that match with their results. In addition, students updated their 4-Year College and Career Plan, including projected high school coursework that aligns with their interests, abilities, and future goals. The lesson will be repeated for students enrolled in this course during the second semester.
Outstanding Student of the Year
Please join us in congratulating Allyia Kennedy who was chosen as this year's Outstanding Student of the Year for LTHS. Allyia will be celebrated in March 2022 at the upcoming Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce Education Celebration. She will be competing for the Lycoming County Outstanding Student of the Year.
Be sure to congratulate Allyia when you see her!
PSAT Results
Sophomores and Juniors who took the PSAT exam in October gained access to their results when they became available in December. If students have not yet seen their scores, they will need to create a College Board account using the same email address they reported on the exam, or view their scores by logging into an existing account.
If they haven’t done so already, students should be sure to visit the “SAT Practice” section of their College Board account. They are able to connect their account and actual test performance to personalized SAT study materials through Khan Academy.
If you are having trouble accessing your scores or personalized study materials, please submit a request to meet with your school counselor.

- A weekly notification identifying the number of positive cases per building will be communicated via the school notification system.
- We will continue with in-school instruction. Short-term transitions to remote instruction may take place as in the past to prevent an outbreak or if we have personnel shortages.
- We will continue to discuss our health and safety plan at our administrative meetings and recommend adjustments as needed.
- We will update the board on any issues of concern and continue to monitor our local and state data.
- Staff and students who are experiencing COVID symptoms or are ill should not report to school.
