Tottenham On The Verge Of Cutting Points, 2008 Deal Situation With Unlicensed Agents
Local reports said Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League (EPL), where Son Heung-min plays, may be cut points due to inappropriate deals in the past.
Britain's "The Times" reported on the 22nd, "We can review evidence that the English Football Association (FA) violated agent regulations in the transfer process between Tottenham, Portsmouth and Jermaine Defoe 15 years ago."
The incident took place in 2008. At that time, Tottenham hired Portsmouth striker Defoe, who had to sell his main player due to a financial crisis, for 7.5 million pounds (about 12.2 billion won).
However, there was a problem during the transfer process. It was revealed that the agent who was in charge of Deppo's transfer negotiations at the time was unlicensed.
"The Times" explained that Tottenham made an inappropriate deal, saying, "It was found that Michelle Thomas, an unlicensed agent, was included during the transfer process to Defoe."
The FA is taking disciplinary action such as a ban on transfer as well as a point cut if it violates the rules for agents.
The FA said through a spokesperson, "It is unclear how much information was shared at the time," but added, "If new evidence comes out, we will review it."
In fact, Lutontown was penalized for 10 points cut in 2008 for violating agent rules.
Tottenham declined to comment on the allegations.
In a statement, Portsmouth said: "The 2008 transfer to Defoe was carried out according to the previous owner, and those who were involved in registering players at the time left many years ago and are no longer at the club. Currently, Portsmouth has no idea what kind of negotiations have happened with the transfer to Defoe," he said.
Meanwhile, the FA has recently responded strongly by taking a 10-point cut to Everton, who was accused of violating fiscal regulations. 스포츠중계
Tottenham, which is cruising to fourth place with eight wins, two draws and two losses (26 points) at the beginning of the season, is expected to turn on a red light in the top-tier competition if it is confirmed that it violates the rules.
