2020-2021 Program of Studies

The 2020-2021 Program of Studies has been posted to the SVHS website and is ready for you to review! The Program of Studies is a document that provides policies, procedures, academic program information, career readiness information and course descriptions to help you and your child prepare for the scheduling process.


This year there are two very important changes to the graduation requirements that will begin with the Class of 2022 (current 10th grade class). The Department of Education has changed the Keystone Graduation Requirements and there are new Career Readiness Graduation Requirements. Both are described in the Program of Studies and will be discussed in meetings at school over the next school year.


Here is a brief recap of other new items:


  1. Updated Career Pathways section with related SVHS courses.

  2. Addition of Northampton Community College Computer Science Pathway (SMART) linking high school courses and concurrent enrollment to NCC, Kutztown, and East Stroudsburg University.

  3. Addition of new courses: Robotics and NCC Remedial English.

  4. Change in Math sequence to have all students follow the same sequence: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry (course descriptions are the same, course pathways and prerequisites are updated to reflect change).

  5. Change in program requirements for General PE.

  6. Clarification of Online Learning for VHS and eBridge.


We also wanted to make the document more interactive this year. Here are a few of the technology upgrades:

  1. Change in Table of Contents to links instead of page number list.

  2. Addition of links to external websites to provide more in depth information.

  3. Addition of bookmarks to move to other areas in the document.

  4. Addition of teacher created videos for information about courses (housed on YouTube).

  5. Addition of links to NCC website for students to see more information about careers.

Please take time to review the document with your child as they plan their schedule for next school year. Ms. Gary will be presenting the new Graduation Requirements and discussing the changes and updates to the document at the SVHS Spring Open House on Thursday, February 13 at 6:30pm. The Guidance Counselors will be meeting with students in their English classes and Ms. Gary will have Class Meetings next week to discuss the changes and the Program of Studies with students.
