Gearing up for Fall -September 2023

Next Week is a very busy week at Westwood! I can't wait to see everyone back in the building. Here are some of the exciting events coming up:

• Elementary Back to School Night 5-7 p.m. - FFA Hot Dog Meal Supper (Free will donation.) - Westwood Education Fundraiser.

Wednesday

• School Starts 8:30-2:30 (Early Out!)
• JH Fall Sports Practice Begins (FB, VB, XC)
• Athletic Booster Meeting 7 p.m.

Thursday

• XC @ Bishop Heelan 5 p.m.
• Varsity Volleyball @ South O'Brien 5:30 p.m.

Friday

• Varsity Football HOME vs. MVAOCOU 7 p.m.

Please welcome Terri Lepley to the Westwood Family. Terri is bringing her experience to our kitchen. Be on the look out for a new foods in our nutrition program. On August 9th she took her full kitchen staff to kitchen training and sample food. Three student volunteers were able to spend the afternoon testing out possible items for our menu. As always, our menu is on the district's website 24/7. Thanks Bryce, Mack and Mason for lending your tastebuds and suggestions!

The Board of Education once again approved free breakfast meals for all Westwood students. This year they also approved a measure allowing all students that receive "reduced" lunch charges to receive "free" meals. These measures are in a accordance with state and federal guidelines.

Bus Dismissal will look a little different this year. Buses will be stacked in the first lane closest to the high school. At the end of school day, traffic will not be allowed down the first lane near the buses. The first lane of parking closest to the high school is reserved for staff only. Please use the "u-turn lane" closest to the elementary office for picking up or dropping off your children. The bus formation might look a little different but we are using it to ensure the safety of all of our students.

Westwood has partnered with SFM for their Workman's Compensation Insurance for three years. Two of those years Westwood has been awarded grants for projects around the school. The grant will cover the cost of 6 more Huricones to be placed at other entrances to stop people from slipping and falling.

If the district would have a weather related late start, breakfast will not be served this year. This does NOT include our regular Monday late starts.

The Board of Education is working with CMBA Architects to design our facility to enable a student-first philosophy. To help with this task, we need your input. When school resumes our staff and students will being filling out their surveys. Please fill out our quick survey at the link below before the end of August. This will help us create a better educational experience for our students and staff!
