AIG Monthly Newsletter

Throughout the last month, students have completed their novel studies and projects that correlate with each. Third graders read Charlotte's Web and participated in weekly Socratic Seminars to discuss the character's traits and motivations as well as the theme. We really focused on how unlikely friendships took place in the story.

4th and 5th graders completed their Sphero Parade Floats and unfortunately, the Spheros were not able to pull the floats. They were just too heavy =( The link for the videos is linked below. They turned out so great and I am so proud of our students for their hard work on the creation of the floats as well as the evidence of character traits that they found for their characters.

Our sweet kindergarteners began their nurturing lessons and we had a wonderful time learning all about divergent thinking. Students learned how to think outside the box and let their creative personalities shine through the A My Name is Alice, The Big Orange Splot, Not a Box, Ten Black Dots and Drawing Starts lessons. Below are a few pictures of them showing off their awesome divergent thinking skills.

Students in first and second grade began enrichment lessons with me in February. First graders are currently working on Word Ladders and the Socratic Seminar routines with children's books such as The Day the Crayons Quit. Students completed multiple lessons using Tangram shapes to help teach them "What Mathematicians Do". They learned the valuable lessons that mathematicians work together as a team, persevere when things get hard and learn from mistakes so that they can grow.

All students in 1st and 2nd-grade math groups received a purple folder and a "Rise and Shine Folder" that they can use in their general classrooms for enrichment when they do not meet with me. Students in my reading group will receive word ladder activities to complete to improve their vocabulary.

Additionally, second graders are currently reading Frindle and discussing it as a Socratic Seminar when we meet on Tuesdays. Please ask your student about what they are reading and learning from the book Frindle. It's such a fun book and I'm sure they will love sharing what they are reading with you.

Students who have been nominated for AIG for the Spring took the CogAT test as needed between March 1- March 10th. We will be holding a Match Team meeting prior to April 15th to begin determining eligibility.
