The 4th Annual Gentlemen of the Court was February 12th. For many reasons, this event has evolved into one of the greatest events of our season.

Practice our Chivalry:

All of our players asked their mothers on a date. The seniors trained the underclassmen on how to treat their dates. Opening the doors, pulling out their chair and letting them go first when moving from place to place are all emphasized.

Basketball Leadership Team Delivering Speeches:

The leadership group, made up of seniors, spoke to the nearly 100 people at the event to explain items like our Mission Statement, why we should show love for our mothers, and how the event was made possible. This is the first time many of them have talked in front of a crowd that large. This is a great experience to prepare them for the future leaders they will be.

Basketball Leadership Training Sessions:

The BLT took the time to train all the underclassmen. This is great for our older players to take the initiative to help the younger players in their quest to become men their mothers can be proud of. But it also is good for our younger ones to learn from their older peers and ask them questions.

School Partnership

Our basketball team has partnered with Ray-Pec's Journalism department, Media Department, CORP, Family and Consumer Science classes, and Pro Start Food's Cooking classes all in an effort to help this event take place. Working together helps Ray-Pec be unified Panthers!

Supporters of the event like the Raymore-Peculiar Foundation and Community Bank of Raymore have been instrumental in helping keep the cost to a minimum for the attendees.

Note from Coach:

We work extremely hard to Develop Skilled Basketball Players to be Successful. The skills are not just dribbling and shooting but are more about (HIT) Hard work, Integrity, and Teamwork. This event drills to the core of many of the guiding star principles we are trying to teach our young players. We ask our players to be gentlemen at all times. But to truly be a "gentleman" is much more than the definition. Gentlemen of the Court allows our players to take another step towards becoming gentlemen. It is an event that allows our players to take the time to see just how special their mothers and to acknowledge their efforts to their growth and development.

Every practice the Panthers start practice the same way. We clap in unity and stop together to show how we are one team. We stand in a circle so every player can see every other player's eyes. We use our "gym voices" to explain to our teammates how we have made a positive impact on the day. Some have thanked teachers, others have thanked the lunch ladies, some have helped fellow students with homework, and others have picked up trash that wasn't theirs in an effort to keep their school clean. We have been doing this for years. This year as we listen to the stories, it's truly amazing the impact our players are making in their school.

The Panthers traveled to Blue Springs South on Tuesday night. After leading nearly the entire game, the Panthers found themselves down 4 points with 2:45 to play. Like champions, the Panthers pulled together and fought their way back. We tied the game by hitting free-throws just 55 seconds remaining in the game. The Jags took the ball down the floor and waited for the last shot. Unfortunately over the outstretched hands of 2 defenders, a player from Blue Springs South let a shot go as the buzzer sounded. The shot went through and the Panthers fell 57-59. The Panthers still have a 1 game lead in the conference race.

The Panthers work hard, have the integrity to do the right thing when nobody is looking and play as a team. The success they are having is due to the work and dedication they put in long before the season started. But with the winning, the Panthers have attracted some attention. The Panthers have shown over the course of the first 14 games that they are a special team in comparison to other teams. We are proud of their recognition. Other people are taking note of what we already knew, this is a special basketball team made up of outstanding young men.
