The Global Leaders of Tomorrow have been working on tackling hunger in the Valley Stream community. Their zero hunger initiative has gotten off to a great start. Students solicited help from their classmates and ask for them to bring in various articles to support the food Drive. Sixth Grader Cartier Burke, the 6th grade representative for the Global Leaders of Tomorrow, spearheaded the event. Flyers went home to encourage participation. Students went from classroom to classroom gathering donations, collecting non-perishable, and sorting the goods. Once everything was collected, the item were sent to the House of Hope food pantry in Valley Stream.

On April 27 Clear Stream was visited by several staff and faculty member's children on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. This year, this national event in the U.S. gave children a glimpse into the working world. Gloria Steinem created the day in 1992. It focuses on taking your children to work to inspire youngsters into future job opportunities and the significance of education. Shadowing the work of one's parents gives children an insight into the workforce and prepares them for the eventuality of employment. The Clear Stream staff celebrated this holiday with the children by arranging for them to receive a folder and assignments just as if they were teaching a class. They were welcomed into our office by our secretary, Mrs. Raggio, who prepared the folders and sent them off to complete their tasks with their parents. The children broke for lunch in the gym and ended the day by completing a quiz about the school’s history. Big shout out to Mrs. Raggio and Mrs. Clarke for organizing the event.

Dr. Roxanne Garcia-France, Superintendent of Schools, highlighted the students who participated in the district’s first DroneBlock competition at the April Board meeting. In February, teams from each of the district’s three schools coded against the clock to complete missions with their drones. Competitors Christopher Lawrence and Tristan Gray received certificates from the Superintendent. Shout out to Mr. Winston, the advisor to the Drone Club.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8 - May 12. Please join me in honoring our teachers who go above and beyond to make sure our students are achieving academically, soaring socially and empathizing emotionally. It has been a difficult three years, but the one constant has been our amazing teachers who often put your children first before themselves. Our PTA kicked off the week by preparing a lovely hot lunch. This years theme was our teachers are "Out of This World." The PTA displayed a space theme background with balloons for photos while the teachers, staff and essential workers enjoyed a meal together. Parents, you can always show your appreciation for our teachers by sending a kind note, making a phone call or typing a message on Parent Square to your child's teacher.

We are so proud of the work that they do for our children on a daily basis and we are thankful for their dedication to our school community.

6th Grade students are starting early looking into what career they are interested in pursuing. Many of the jobs available to our children when they graduate have not been invented yet. But our students are eager to dream about their futures. So Mrs. Dougherty and Mrs. Giovanelli had their students dress up as their preferred career choice. Several students wanted to be nurses, doctors and entrepreneurs. While others were interested in sports, teaching and the culinary arts.
