Dear Field Parents and Guardians,

We hope that you and your family have had a nice week! Thank you for joining us for fall conferences! A special thank you to PTO for coordinating dinner for us all three nights of conferences as well. We are looking forward to celebrating Halloween as a school community on Friday, October 28th! Please be sure to review that information below in this newsletter.

We wanted to share some great news! One of our speech-language pathologists Mrs. Kathryn Doyle welcomed twin boys earlier this month! Her newborns came a bit early but are doing well and getting stronger. As a result, we are coordinating her speech services, and her maternity leave substitute Ms. Kelly Wallner will begin November 8th.

In other news, students received their school pictures last week. Our picture retake day is on Wednesday, November 9th. If you'd like your child to have a re-take, they should bring their pictures back to school on that day. If you didn't order pictures originally and your child is taking pictures on retake day, you'll use the same form. Here is the attached flyer.

A few reminders:

• Recess is most often outdoors - please ensure your children are dressed for the cooler weather.

• October 15th is the deadline for submitting physical exam/vaccine records for students in kindergarten and new students, as well as eye exams for students in kindergarten and new to Illinois schools.

• Children should either bring their water bottle to lunch - or pack a separate drink for the lunchtime. Students are able to go to the water fountain during lunch too, but we do not have extra cups or water bottles for students.

• Please no dogs at drop off or pick up! Thank you!
• Please review bicycle safety with your children. As our older students are riding bicycles on their own, we want to be certain they understand the important safety rules of the road. We've had a few reports from parents and neighbors about students not stopping at stop signs or looking both ways while bicycling in the early evening hours.

Field School will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 28th in the afternoon. Please review this handout for more information about our plans. Special thank you to our PTO room parents who will spearhead our classroom celebrations.

Please join us for an upcoming Parent University about our new K-5 math program: Eureka Math Squared. This session will be held on Tuesday, November 1, from 6:45 to 8:00 pm at Franklin Elementary School.

During this time, we will divide into two sessions; one session will focus on the K-2nd grade program and the other will focus on the 3rd-5th grade program.

Again this year, we would like to honor the Veterans from our Field School Family. If you have a Veteran in your family, please send in a picture with their name, branch and relation to the Field student.

We will be compiling the pictures to display at school. Please do not send an original photo. While we will be careful with the pictures, we would hate for anything to happen to your special picture. You can send the picture with your child to give to his or her teacher. All pictures should be submitted by Wednesday, November 2nd.

After Thanksgiving Break, our second grade students, districtwide, will begin to bring their chromebooks to and from school each day. Here's a few helpful tips:

• Keep the chromebook in the protective case
• Create a charging routine at home each night
• Keep the charger in a safe spot
• Create a morning checklist (backpack, chromebook, lunch, etc) to help remember the chromebook each day.

Tips for making Halloween Less Scary for the Planet

• Collect your candy wrappers for recycling and bring to school see info below and check out this video.
• Upcycle, reuse, and exchange costumes with friends or post on local Buy Nothing pages
• Select candy in cardboard boxes: Nerds, Junior Mints, Dots, Lemonheads and more
• Consider skipping single-use plastics and plastic prizes like spider rings, fake teeth and other items a child may only use once
• Consider skipping decorative spider webs outdoors which can harm local wildlife

On Friday, Oct. 28th, the Field PTO will be hosting Trunk or Treat from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the staff parking lot. We hope to see costumed Field families there! Admission is free but donations of canned goods for local food pantries are suggested. (Please note that this is not a drop off event, and parents must stay with their kids.)

This year, when any of our District 64 schools has a positive COVID-19 case, we'll communicate that information via our school-specific dashboard on our website. A link to our Field COVID dashboard can be found here. This dashboard will replace any previously emailed letters with notifications. On the dashboard, you will be able to see the number of active cases of students or staff in isolation, and the homerooms associated with those students.

We do continue to update this regularly. Our numbers of reported cases have been very low or at zero for the recent weeks.
